David G.
Hello Everybody! Needing a break from my current ongoing and long running Lamborghini Countach I decided to distract myself with a more simple diversion, refurbishing this 1:32 scale Corvette. For those of you who may be interested, I have a WIP posted detailing the whole renovation project. Here's a link. I received this built-up model along with more than a dozen others in a "Model Car Junkyard" that I bought off E-bay back in 2010 when I reentered the hobby. This was back before those kit-breakers started opening the classic model kits and selling them one piece at a time. It didn't come boxed, I lifted this photo from eBay. This is what I started with... ...and this is what I had when I was done. Again. Before... ...and after. I don't have a lot of experience with 1:32 scale kits so I was a little surprised by the amount of detail that was actually there for me to pick out and well... detail. Some of these details include the nicely cast raised white letters on the tires. The wheels however, themselves are a different story. They required a bit more creativity. I thought about making heat shields for the side pipes but decided not to as I wanted to keep this a simple build by doing my best with what the kit had to offer. So I drilled out the ends of the side pipes and called it good enough. Of course I had to do a vanity plate. A California tag of the era seemed appropriate. For what it's worth, the hood opens to reveal just the merest hint of an engine. The undercarriage is decently detailed with brake cables and other features cast into it. But I decided not to take the time to call them out with detail painting. Over all, I'm pleased with the way this one turned out. I really like this color, Duplicolor Medium Quasar Metallic. It just seems right for a Corvette. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post a comment. David G,

ismaelg
Corvettes and blues just can't go wrong! Nice job on this one. I recently did a 1/32 Trans Am and was also amazed at how much detail you get out of those. Currently doing another 1/32 project. It is a fun scale to play with. Thanks, Ismael

Thanks, Ismael Thank you Ismael, that color definitely suits a Corvette. Based on my experience rebuilding this kit, I've begun to browsing 1:32 kits at my LHS. I think I may pick up a couple to have on hand when I'm in need of a quick-build fix in the midst of a long term project. 11 hours ago, Kah puts said: That’s a overtime winner 🏒 Thank you Glen. 11 hours ago, Rattlecan Dan said: Did a very nice job. I'd like a go at one that I didn't have to disassemble and repair first. 2 hours ago, PappyD340 said: Nice Vette! Thank you Larry. David G. David G.
Hello Everybody! I know it's been a little while but I finally got around to getting a shot of this one in my display case, as is my tradition. So, here it is! As always, thanks for all the support and kind comments. David G.
Hello Everybody! I know that this one is technically done but I just couldn't help myself. I have a handful of these neat little plastic containers from Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolates and I've been wanting to do something with them for quite some time. I always figured that they would make a decent little display case for 1:32 scale model cars so I thought I'd give it a shot with this Corvette. I started out using the lid of one of the containers to cast a Hydrocal plaster base but this turned out to be too heavy so I sculpted one from particleboard. I sprayed some gray primer on the wooden base and some gloss black sprayed inside the plastic lid. Test fitting the lid, it looks like everything is going to work well together. I sanded down the lugs on the top corners of the lid and tried to polish it out. I'm not sure if the result is due to the plastic of the lid or my skill level but this is as clear as I could get it. My goal in doing this was as a gift to my wife so she could have a model that I built for her office at work. With that in mind, to keep everything secure I drilled some holes in the base so the car could be wired in place, then I used a couple drops of canopy glue to secure the top. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment. David G.
