oldcarfan Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Over the last few years I've been trying to collect all Monogram's Exotic Car line, but the Capri II has eluded me at a decent price. Does anyone know if Atlantic or someone else has the molds for this kit as well as the other kits in this line? I have a thread on the history of these kits and hope to start building the kits I've collected by the end of the year. I'd sure like to have this kit too! It was released in a couple variations, but this is the one I had as a kid. 1
Daddyfink Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 According to Scale Mates, the last version was issued in 1981. I have never seen any of the other kits in this series get re-issued recently, so it is hard to say if they went to Atlantis or if Revell AG kept them. They are not very detailed kits, but, they are mostly imports that would sell well overseas.
stitchdup Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Those kits mostly get sold in europe. the capri is massively popular on this side of the pond and these kits have kept their value bacause of that. I hope revell have kept hold of them, they would be a good seller for them if the second hand values are a guide and since ford europe did the engineering they are simple to build an engine bay for as it just a couple of right angle bends to make inner fenders
ncbuckeye67 Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I picked one up at a show recently, like pictured above (box pic may be different though).
oldcarfan Posted June 10, 2023 Author Posted June 10, 2023 Maybe whoever owns the molds could reissue it and I wouldn't say no if they tooled up a set of Euro market bumpers to go with it. Much sleeker looking in my opinion. 1

Dave Van Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Back right before the Revell Monogran collapse bankruptcy I suggested to Sexton that all these curbside kits be issued as 2 in 1 kits with the two version of each in a single box. They (RM) were interested and asked me to gather the kit numbers and any box art I had. Before I gathered all the info RM went under and that was the end of that. I wonder if Atlantis has the tooling. They may and just not have licensing for Mercury/Ford, Porsche, Ferrari, Leyland etc and not viable for one or two kits......Ferrari is to costly for sure.
Ulf Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 There is a Capri mkII(?) from AMT 1/25 and an early 1/24 curbside from a Japanese manufacturer. There really should be a market for either of these especially in light of Round2's Craftsman kit without engine.
John M. Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 (edited) I built the factory version of the Monogram Capri II years ago straight out of the box and when it was molded in black. Like Dave Van, I'm wondering myself if Atlantis has the tooling for the kit. Hopefully, Atlantis is in contact with Ford about working out a licensing deal for the car and other Ford kits. I myself would rather see the AMT Capri come back (I just think it’s a better kit all around), and that’s probably more likely, given Round 2’s habit of going into their “tool mine” to rerun these older kits.
Justin Porter Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 I'd be happiest if Belkits decided to tool up a Capri as a companion to their excellent Escort, leaving the Lotus Cortina as the biggest blank spot in classic Ford touring cars in 1/24th scale.
