MrMiles Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 im searching for Corvette (1964,64,1965,65,1966,66) on ebay to get all corvettes available in the models section between 64 and 66. when i sort by price lowest first i get 160 results. when i sort highest first, i get 320 anyone else see this
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Ebay's been a hot mess for years, and the more they tinker with it to make it mo better, the worse it gets. I could list a number of other stupid glitches on the site, but I don't have all night. EDIT: But I'll say this...the poor functionality is kinda like the crapp coming from many of the car manufacturers these days. The little rainbow-haired dwerps writing the code never have to use the stuff they vomit up, same as the car designers never have to use or work on the stuff they squeeze out. EDIT 2: And the vast majority of users don't ever realize what a bunch of dog exhaust they're getting anyway. "Oh, the people doing these things are experts, so it all must be good, and I'll not think to question anything because that's too hard". Edited June 19, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy 2 1
Dave Van Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Thankfully ebay 'improved' the model train listings to the point I gave up........which was a good thing.......saved me lots of cash 1 1

Mark Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I'm still wondering why so many military subject model kits get lumped in with the automotive stuff. I guess eBay uses the "supermarket" business model, where they move items around the store every so often. The longer they keep you in the store, the more you are likely to spend... 3

Expand The reason is two fold. One is a bad algorythm for helping the seller insert the listing. I don't know why it does what it does, but it is not good. The second are sellers who are too stupid to change the algorythms suggestion to a proper categaory. Actually, there is also a third. Sellers who list there item in improper along with proper categories, just to get more eyeballs on them. 1
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Definitely sounds like there is a sorting issue that is caused by a combination of issues that are causing problems. If the data isn't being entered correctly then what comes out isn't going to be right and there not a lot ebay can do about that. In addition there is a problem with the sorting algorithm. MrMiles Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 the sort seems to be ok today. i guess they fixed it

Tom Geiger Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 eBay is a mess. They work on live code without any idea of the multiple things they are affecting. eBay has been rolling out their own International shipping, where sellers would ship the packages to a US address, then eBay will ship them to the countries of the final destination. And they're inflicting this upon sellers who want no part of it, without warning or even notice they've done it. My eBay store is for stamp collectors, so most everything I sell fits in a normal size number 10 envelope. That's $1.45 to any country. With eBay shipping it's suddenly $14 or more. I had no idea they had enrolled me, but I was wondering why I hadn't had any International buyers in the past few weeks... I usually get a few a week. I discovered the problem when a buyer in Israel sent me a message complaining that I was charging $15 for postage. I went through the information and found the page where I could Opt Out of the program. Typical of eBay, they worked out how to inflict this mess on everyone, but didn't have the exit path working! So suddenly the guy in Israel says now he's getting a message that I don't ship to Israel. And I get the same message from a lady in Canada. I check it out on my end, and eBay's software tells me I hadn't declared a shipping method to Israel... as in hey, you took it away and didn't put it back correctly! 1

It get worse and worse and their seller fees are so out of control that it's not really a viable option. I'm not sure how you could make a fair profit with their share getting larger all the time. They squashed eBay Bucks too because I guess they weren't getting fat enough off the junk fees. Eventually someone will come along and bury them, just like every other online business that gets too big for it's britches. 1
MrMiles Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 I stopped using ebay to sell when they require my social security number just to list a single item. There is zero chance that is happening
Mark Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 They have abandoned and alienated the people who built them. First by analyzing how well some people were doing, then trying to grab as much of that as possible. Second by trying to become another Amazon, leaving the remaining sellers behind because they (eBay) weren't able to squeeze any more out of them. 1
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I suspect another issue is when they are making changes they aren't doing adequate testing. Sometimes changes can cause unintended problems and rigorous testing is the only way to find them. As with most companies these days management wants to cut corners to save a few cents. 1

1930fordpickup Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Is there a way to search in the Model section and not go into every section known to man on EBAY? Expand i usually start a search and then on the right hand side, click the labels for Toys and Hobbies->Model Kits->Automotive if you are using a cell phone, you have to click filters first, then do the same as above to find the right section. the cell phone version is not nearly as friendly or this link brings you right to the models section https://www.ebay.com/b/Toy-Models-Kits/1188/bn_1852447
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) However you configure your search, just remember that the algorithm is pretty stupid. Using slightly different terms in multiple searches will almost always pull up more relevant results than a single search will...even within the same very narrow category. A good general tool-use rule: step one is pretending you're smarter than whatever tool you're using. Edited June 22, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy CLARITY
