Justin Porter Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 This was posted by Indycals page last night. MFH has long been one of the standard bearers for just what an auto kit could be in our segment of the modeling hobby. Few people can say they've elevated their chosen medium through their ambitions, but Mr Hiro certainly was one of them. 3
Daddyfink Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Sad news indeed. The man had a true passion for the hobby and created some of the nicest kits I have ever seen. I never had one, but have seen a few of them, and they are just works of art. Vaya Con Dios.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Con Dios indeed. WOW. 63 is young, and that's a loss. 2
Chuck Kourouklis Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 I'll just add it here instead of amending my last post: one of the more interesting segments of the modelfactoryhiro.com website was the "Mr Hiro's Hobby" segment, where he'd share progress photos on the kits he himself built - Pocher Classics kits in the main, of all things, and he finished them very nicely. Looks like he passed in the middle of his take on the '34 Rolls Torpedo Cabriolet. Sad to consider he's no longer around to finish it.
ACR-E Doug Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 So sad to hear. I have built one of his kits and in the middle of another one. I hope the company will be able to continue on. There was no body that cared more about model kits than him. RIP Mr Hiro
peteski Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 That is a very sad news. I have one of his Ferrari kits, but haven't tackled it yet.
89AKurt Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 I've seen where he included notes with shipments, customer service was apparently very good. Have only one of his kits in the stash. I'm only one year younger. ?
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 That bites. Way too young. And yes, the kits have indeed been works of art. I hope the company goes on, and maintains the same standards. All too often, when a founder dies or is replaced, the product deteriorates due to lack of visionary leadership.
Twokidsnosleep Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 (edited) Oh so very sad. Another modelling legend has been lost and very young at 63. Japanese lifestyle is usually so healthy and and long lived. So sad He seemed to have an incredible passion for racing and models. I really hope there is a drive to keep what he started going at the same detail and quality level that he demanded. MFH needs to continue. He was in the middle of building a Pocher Rolls Royce Phantom II as his personal build. Perhaps that kit…. I wish him and his family and friends peace? Edited June 29, 2023 by Twokidsnosleep
