NOBLNG Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) The photo etch saws are excellent. I have no experience with their razor saw, but pretty much anything Tamiya makes is good quality. Edit: The photo etch saws (likely any brand) bend easily, so it’s best to cut on the backstroke if possible. And always use a very light touch…let the saw do the work. Edited July 3, 2023 by NOBLNG
hedotwo Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I agree with Greg. Their PE saws are great and I'd be lost without them.
peteski Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I have to chuckle at the subject line. Instead, "Tamiya PE saw" would have taken all the mystery out of this click-bait thread. Yes, I I fell for it, but have no opinions since I don't own one. I guess mystery is what makes the world go 'round.
ctruss53 Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I haven't used photo etched saws yet. I don't know why. I have a few fine tooth saws from Micro Mark and Xacto. They have served me well for 30 years now.
stitchdup Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 yes, the saws are good. the razor saw is a little chunky in size but it works well. It comes with a spare blade too. The teeth is a little too course for fine work and 3d resin but great for most plastics

I have found that if you wet the saw as you work, it binds less.
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 For me the Tamiya razor saw is good for big cuts where accuracy is not an issue. Last year I bought an off brand set of PE saws from Amazon just to see what they were like. I love them especially for intricate cuts. I've used them many times and they're still sharp. Even helpful in scribing. They can bend easily so as it's been said, go easy and let the saw do the work. My suggestion is to get both the razor saw and a set of PE saws. That way you're prepared for anything.
