Project Motorhome

Picked up a 1998 Hess race team hauler that was missing some items including the racecar and motorcycle and the rear ramp door. So, I am repurposing it as a motorhome.

Got it stripped down and a set of custom wheels from the parts box mocked up. On the the body mods!

In 1/25 scale it would equal 24' long by 7'8" wide in full scale.

Body work started. Bumpers and side rails dechromed. Front bumper smoothed. New window opening on passenger side. Rear ramp door opening filled in. All Hess lettering removed. More body work planned.

Lots of "fill, file, sand, repeat!" Almost ready for first primer coat.

Smoothed the front bumper more and added holes for fog lights. Filled in most of the rooftop side marker lights, leaving the front and rear to still light up.

Filled in the left side ramp door, modified the right side ramp door to look more like a standard RV entry door.

Added accessories and first coat of paint. Tamiya Pure White

Slowly getting there. Primary colors are on. Now to finish up details like windows, mirrors, etc. and rerun the wiring for the lights.

Looks great! After seeing this I had to go find me one of these.

Wiring done. Custom grille done. Still more work to do on the windows and more details. And it needs a hitch.

Almost done, but not quite!

Windows are in, rolled up simulated awning is done, hitch installed. Still working on the rear ladder.

After that I need to build the "Tow'd". The towbar is already made and the Tow'd vehicle is under construction.

Ladder under construction. A bit tedious but looking pretty good. Brass rod and styrene steps.

Very cool project!I made a Winny by scratch building the body and interior  including cabinets,fridge and stove.Used a Kenworth truck chassis for motive power.
