Zippi Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I'm like Roger....those wheels & tires make the truck.
TopherMcGinnis Posted May 6, 2024 Author Posted May 6, 2024 Between work, family, and uncooperative weather, I sprayed some primer on Stitches this evening while priming some other builds/parts. There's need for more sanding, filler and then more primer. 4
TopherMcGinnis Posted May 9, 2024 Author Posted May 9, 2024 I really need to spend some time with this dude 5
bobss396 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I'm liking it, I never pass up a cheap NASCAR kit, they have so many good things in them that are useful. 1

Flatout Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Hey Topher…this thing is too cool. Everything about it is right, the wheels / tires, the stance, and the body mods all work together to make this special. Can’t wait to see some color on it! 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted May 15, 2024 Author Posted May 15, 2024 Thanks! That makes 2 of us! Still up in the air on color(s) 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted May 17, 2024 Author Posted May 17, 2024 Besides not poking myself, any pointers on these?
Mattilacken Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Beautifull work on that body! and wheels suits it verry well! Functioning hood pins! thats super advanced! i bought the MR.hobby hood pins that looks the part but a bit easier to build. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 8, 2024 Author Posted July 8, 2024 Not real sure about the cockpit dressings. Not really digging the factory skinz. I want it to be a 2 seater though. Maybe a set of bomber seats? Maybe some scratched "aluminum" door panels ?. I believe a roll cage would have to be installed to complete the race theme. Until then, I'll keep sanding and adding putty to smooth the body for paint. It does sit nice though ?
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 Color has been chosen ✨️ Createx Metallic Burnt Orange. I have a couple spots that require attention, but I hope to colorize this girl tomorrow. 1
bisc63 Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Looking sweeeeeet! I always liked the custom grille from this kit, but I swear yours is the only one I've ever seen without huge sink marks in the plastic that just ruins the look!
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 Patience. That of which I lack severely. There will be some wet sanding and repainting in the future. I think the color will look good though.
dino246gt Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 This is what I did to a '64, scratched console, Mercedes buckets and modified kit door cards. 2

I don’t like it at all. Would have been better if they wouldn’t have put the two round things right in the middle. Would have been great if they left them out completely. Stock grill should have been included. Sorry to derail the thread.
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 23, 2024 Author Posted July 23, 2024 We each have our own opinions. I like the custom grille, except for the 2 lights in the center. I would rather it have tubes all the way across. That's what makes this hobby so great, we all have ideas in our heads, someone else may not think of it unless we share them. 1

I like the one in the '69 and '70 annuals better but I have a bunch of those custom grilles and may someday use one on a custom by cutting the lights out and replacing the section from another grille. The stock grille in that kit doesn't look that great anyway, the headlights aren't even exactly round. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 23, 2024 Author Posted July 23, 2024 I wet sanded the heavy spots earlier. I'm in the process of painting the bare primer spots to put the color back. Then I'll try to blend it all together so it looks like it was painted all at once. The thing I love about Createx paints is the fact you can pour the mixed/unused paint back into its container(as long as you use their products and follow their instructions) . This keeps waste to a minimum. 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 I'm hoping this turns out looking good.... 3
TopherMcGinnis Posted July 27, 2024 Author Posted July 27, 2024 It took several days of light coats to get the spots covered. It was very rainy and humid, so I could do 1 or 2 light coats an evening. 2k clear next. 2
