Chinacar Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Some in progress and finished pictures of the Ken Miles - Llyod Ruby car. Modified right front fender made it higher for more wheel travel, deleted the Guerney bump on the top of the doors (the bump was invented later) and deleted the rear intake scoops. I made my own decals with Adobe Illustrator and printed them out on self adhesive vinyl. Other than that the Magnifier kit was built box stock. 9
vamach1 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 (edited) Fantastic conversion and build. I have seen some resin conversion kit and decals for the Daytona version. Edited February 12, 2024 by vamach1
Yeah Nah Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Superb job Alex! Your 'metalwork' is outstanding.

I learned quite a bit about the shortcomings (door fit, plumbing) and positives (good proportion, accuracy of the body) of this kit. I'm well into the Denny Hulme Le Mans winner version, hopefully it will look much better.

Chinacar Posted February 12, 2024 Author Posted February 12, 2024 Thanks for the follow up! Seems like a handy thing to have, it saves a lot of time modifying kit parts. I still may build a Daytona version of the car but probably a different livery. I'm progressively getting better with each version. I'll have to post the pictures of my Denny Hulme winning black version as soon as I get it photographed.
Bainford Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Good looking GT-40. Nice work. I really liked this livery.
Phildaupho Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Fantastic GT40 built from what must be a very good kit.

It needs a bit of work in fit because so many things open, but detail is ok and there is a lot of reference to super detail. My next version will have more detail and more of the problems corrected than in this one. I have already bought a third kit as they are available for about $50, which is a great bargain for a kit like this.

Chinacar Posted March 4, 2024 Author Posted March 4, 2024 Yeah, 3M self adhesive clear decal film. I figured most of the surfaces were simple surfaces, so it was simple to apply them. I used Adobe Illustrator to design the numbers (they weren't a standard font) and printed them out on a normal color printer at work. It was also an advantage the car was white. For the black hood I just masked and painted a white gumball.

Chinacar Posted March 30, 2024 Author Posted March 30, 2024 You're right, my mistake. Thanks for that.
