I have 10 or maybe 15 kits started in some form or another. Get stumped as the direction i want a kit to go. Maybe get one started and change my mind on rims or tires. Sometimes the paint just goes south. I get having 2 or 3 going only stopping on one to wait for glue or paint to dry. But i bet i have 15 or so started.  But life has gone side ways. Trying to get it together again so with any luck i will get some done.

So how many have you got started and put back on the shelf? I remember when i bought one and finished one.

Last time I counted I had 60 or so.

Sometimes the vision changed and I didn't want to launch a total redo until later. Sometimes I hit a wall that I didn't yet have the skills to overcome. Sometimes more research was needed to get a technical detail right. Sometimes I had a great idea for something else, and I shelved the then-current build to at least get the new idea mocked up before I lost the inspiration.

Who makes rules like "how many is too many"?

If you're enjoying whatever you're doing with model cars and not hurting anybody, there's no foul.

Are You having FUN?

If you are, then you can never have too many WIPs.

They say that "getting there is Half the Fun".

So, start a new build when the mood strikes, and enjoy the build.

This is pretty much what I do. I get stuck and put it back in the box. There are certain things I do not like to do, as in stock car seat belts. I have dug out things that I put away 20 years ago and finally overcame that hurdle. My oldest now is a '60 Chevy tow truck. I did some work on it last year, I started it in 1999. I probably have around 25 stalled projects.

You think you got problems! Currently, I’ve got three 1:1 car projects going on and two 1:1 bikes in various stages. Thank God I got a) the room b) no neighbors, and c) an understanding Mrs.

I used to have two or three going on at the same time and it seemed like nothing ever got finished as I would become distracted with the latest purchase, squirrel. I have limited myself to working to finish whatever is in front of me. I have put some back in the box half done only to find them much later and wonder what I was thinking of.

To me the initial mockup is the funnest part. I have several (10-12?) mocked up and put back in boxes with an index card that details what I was thinking at that moment. I stopped displaying my finished kits on a triple shelf on my bench because 1) they are finished, 2) they provide no inspiration for current projects, and 3) they are taking up space. So I started putting out my current projects on display so when I’m sitting at my bench trying to figure out what I want to do I can work on one and put it back while working on another.

I find more enjoyment from the building than the finished article. Many times I've been pretty far along with something then i competely change direction with it. My terraplane has been a 5 window, then a 3 window , back to a 5 window, then a ute and now its sitting halfway between a 5 window coupe and a ute. Thats just one build, theres loads more but some i have to be in the mood to work on and I'm quite happy to add more wips to the bench. Sometimes i get a bit down about not finishing a build but that just means shake a tamiya box. I am hopeful to get a few finished over the next few months as i am displaying at the vintage show in august and they want a few anniversary cars (cars with anniversaries this year, not special editions) to suit their themes. I'm sure I'll start a few more too in the time frame and i still have to start my cannonball car but at least the kit is close to the bench now and i have the parts looked out ready but i dont think it will be ready enough to display at the show. And i still have to fix all the ones i took last year as every one of them got damaged.

Five is too many for me, but that's just me.  Future projects is way more than that.  My eyes are getting old, so I'm approaching critical mass depression about it.

I got 2 cars going right now, both are running and moving. I need to get the 2nd one insured and registered.

I used to have 6 vehicles and 6 motorcycles which 3 where for our 2 kids. But none really projects. Do have 1 1;1 project now.

The only one i would worry about is the wife. We have 10.5 acres and can't see any neighbors.

Really no such thing as too many. But some folks set limits. I would like to get a few done. To each their own. It is a hobby and should be fun.

I have a handful or so projects going..... They're all held up by something different. The big scale Vette is waiting on paint, my Coyote X project is on hold until I can figure out how to hinge the rear clamshell.... There's the little 2002 that I'm gonna need to buy a magnifying lamp to attach the body trim to. I usually can buy a kit and build it, most of the time......

Almost started 2 more WIPs today just because of ideas that popped in my head, but fortunately I managed to stop myself ??

Thanks for the chuckle. Funny how that happens

The '59 Ford lives in the garage, my "new" '66 Belair will be kept outside for now. The neighbors are cool. One guy a few houses down has a few cars including a '74 Camaro. My one friend down the block some more has a '68 Roadrunner that is a track car. Another on my block has a nice '88 Vette. I have a long driveway and am on a dead-end. After 38 years here, I have never had anyone complain.

I back up to 2 major highways, I have only one neighbor next to me on a double plot, the house is far from me.

Hi!

Try to limit myself to 4 at once... otherwise, I loose focus and slow down too much. Five was my "worst". Oh well...

CT

Lol.  I should force my self to a limit. Might feel better getting one done

Well I'm like in the start it and finish it crowd.  I only work maybe 2-3 hours 4-5 days a week on a model so it kinda takes me forever to get one done.  I used to have 2 maybe 3 at a time but with limited space it got to be too much.  Just my 2 cents.
