I got out in the garage about 7:00 this morning to try and beat the heat.  I decided to fill in the firewall and not use the funky hinge that came in the kit.  I think my Tamiya putty is starting to dry out in the tube.  I have not gotten around to installing the rear axle just yet as I want to set the rear ride height as close to the front as possible.  The front suspension is not adjustable but the rear has a small amount of play to work with. This is the first mock-up and there will be many, many more to get the ride height to where I'm happy with it.

Bob are you going to build another firewall?

No.  I plugged and puttied the kit firewall.  Once dry I'll sand it smooth.  That's the plan anyway.

I think I'm getting close on getting my front and rear axles figured out.  I used some 1/8" X .014 aluminum tube to get my proper width.  I'll epoxy the aluminum tube to the wheels then to the front and rear suspension.  I do need to cut a little off the rear axle tube support rods but no biggie.

Hey Bob, that's looking good! You could also C-notch some clearance for the axle as well. Whichever would be easier I guess...?

I appreciate it Spike.  That Iceman drop chassis already has a Hugh "C" notch. I need to adjust the rear axle support tubes for fore/aft, not up/down.

I just wasn't satisfied with the wheel base so I cut the chassis back apart and cut another 1/8" off.  Now the "C" notch looks better coming through the bed opening and the wheels look positioned much better in the fender openings.  I may need to cut out the front fender wells.  Still a lot of clean up to do and I still haven't picked a color yet.  I need to get on this as I need to get the 427 painted and assembled.  I got the first sanding completed on the firewall.  It's looking smooth but had a little hole.  Picked up some Mr. Hobby White Putty at HL yesterday but this stuff takes 24 hrs to dry.  This should be all the putty work.  Next I'll hit it with some primer to see what I missed.

Hi Bob - stance is looking good!  Making the vision come to life can test one’s patience.

I hear ya man.  I found an old visor that I cut in half and added 3/8" stock to the center section to fit.  We'll see if it works out.

Nice work adapting that chassis Bob.?

Thanks Greg.  I just hate cutting on resin as it's so brittle.

I shot all the bright work with Tamiya TS-14 Black and let that set for a day.  Just got through with shooting the Molotow Chrome on all the bright work.  I poured the Molotow Chrome from the pen to my airbrush and no thinner.  Air pressure was set at about 18 psi working air pressure.  The temperature was 87° and the humidity was at 58%.  I think it turned out pretty good.

Looks great! I use Molotow through an airbrush a lot. I get the refills, a lot more liquid and easier to pour into the cup.

Thanks man.  I can't get the refills locally so it's much cheaper just to buy the pens.

Another great looking build shaping up Bob. Nice job on modifying the chassis. I have the Iceman back half chassis, but haven’t used it yet. As for the bed, it might look good to clean up the hole and leave it so you can see the rear suspension etc. It’s often done that way on 1:1 trucks, just my 2 cents… Look forward to watching it come together.

Thanks Steve.  yup, that's why I cut the hole in the bed so the "C" notch could come up into the bed.  Makes for a fine show piece.

I decided to make my own fuel tank so I went on the hunt in my parts box and my old RC parts box.  I came up with a moon tank and a plastic sleeve from the RC box.  I think once I hit it with a little putty, sand it, then shoot it with some Molotow chrome it should look pretty good.  I also got the tires mounted on the wheels.  I'm still working on making that sun-visor since I can't find an after market one.  It hasn't got the best of me just yet.

Holy Cow! Captain Prolific, I just bent over to tie my shoes, and you've got another one half done. You must really like building these little works of art. Nice-looking work so far Bud. I've never taken you off the watch list. You're way too fast for me. Wishing you smooth sailing on your latest project.

Haha...I really do need to slow down some.  I think the wife has a project coming up for me.

Be careful when you let your wife pick and choose for your next scale model build...they get really picky. :D

Well, lucky for me the project will probably be in the back yard.
