The young Buck that has been going for the Apples out back, was startled because I was out front crouched down working on rocks.

Never have seen such large mushrooms before.  A website declares that they will not determine if they are "Destroying Angel" poisonous at all, just assume all are.
I picked the upside down last night, and the other had grown.

From this afternoon, Gila woodpecker (Melanerpes uropygialis) has figured out how to land on the hummingbird feeder for a sugar water snack.

Cool bird. Looks similar to the flickers we see around here.

We have finches and orioles that try to use the hummingbird feeders.

Have not seen a wood Pecker like that before..

Native more or less just to the Arizona Sonoran desert and on down into northern Mexico / Baja Peninsula. They're one of the birdies that create "saguaro boots," but when I looked that up just now, I learned that it's a long range planning thing, where the pecked-out area lining within the saguaro doesn't harden up for at least a year to provide a nest area to live in.

I never "see" them in my yard but enjoy listening to the crickets all night during the summer. Strange that last night was the first time I didn't hear them. Maybe it's getting too cold at night now.

I did enjoy hearing an owl hooting very close to our open bedroom window. After a bit he moved further away but was still asking the same question "who, who, who"?

I've got a pair that live somewhere on the property, we get to watch and hear them all the time. Kinda interesting watching them hunt.

This was about a month ago. I had the boss's dog doing what comes naturally in his backyard and when I was removing the results to the trash bag I heard a VERY loud, angry buzz:

Rattlesnake that looked to be about 30" long. Got the dog inside and called Animal Control, and a nice guy named Ryan came out and got it with a grabber after several tries (it had wound itself up under that shrub on the upper right), and got it in that can, and it was REALLY buzzing at that point! Thanked him profusely.

Hundreds of these little purple/lavender gnat things flying all over......... I thought they were ashes or something, until one landed on me..... then another, and Another! I don't have any idea where they are coming from. Maybe when the spiders show up, they'll thin them down some..........

Look like one-year olds? Need to check security camaras before going out to fill the bird feeders.

Mom is just off screen on the left. You can see a glimpse of her right as the video starts on the left. The bird feeders are gonna come down for a bit I'm thinking.
