johnyrotten Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Saw the deer with the leg problem this morning, eating an old pumpkin we tossed out 2
espo Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Last night I stepped out on the patio to light the BBQ for some KC Strips and surprised a Possum that had been looking around in the dark. He didn't stick around for a picture. Don't know who was more startled, the Possum or myself. Had a raccoon sticking their head out of a culvert on the edge of the property last week. I think he is the one that has been raiding the bird feeder. Having had a little drought condition lately and the woodland creatures are getting hungry, along with the vocal Coyotes at night. 1
HomerS Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Neighbor told me a few weeks ago there was a momma and baby deer in my back yard but by the time I got to the back door they were gone. Last night, fed the trio and went to let them out for a post dinner bio moment and momma deer was about 40 feet away. She gracefully hopped my fence and the next fence before looking back from two yards away. The dogs never saw the deer but they gave the full yard the nasal appraisal as they knew SOMETHING was on their turf. I check the door for raccoons and squirrels right at the door before I let the dogs out but was not expecting this. 1
Rob Hall Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Looked out my kitchen window a few minutes ago and saw a buck deer come out of the woods and cross my yard then back into the woods…
espo Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Last night about sundown looking out the kitchen window while having dinner. Wasn't expecting anything until my wife shouts "coyote". I see one sort of going at a slow trot looking around followed by a second and a third one. I'm thinking they are a pack that we hear sometimes vocalizing after dark and they look like the same ones we have seen in the past.

My dogs have cornered them, live ones, in the yard and naturally it played possum. But they didn’t try to attack or get too close. But they will definitely roll around in any dead smell lying around💩 1

There's about a billion little helicopter seeds in my yard right now........ I think they're more for the birds to eat and not to plant anything. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 I put my sorry old weatherbeaten Christmas wreath on my front door, and tied a motheaten bow to my mailbox. I'm sure some Karen will complain about the poor quality of my holiday decorations. 4
Falcon Ranchero Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Yo guys I remember this one time back in the early fall of 2020, back when my grandfather still had the veg garden growin', there was a mama deer with two fawns out in the field coming closer, and at that time the apples were ready so I took a seat on the bench and had some apples on the ground like a meter in front of me and the two fawns timidly came up to me and ate the apples within petting distance but I didn't see the mom deer but then I felt something breathing down my neck so I froze 'cause I knew who that was. Then outta the corner of my eye I see my granfather come out the garage a little ways away and I think he said holy sh or something and then my dad pulled in with the truck and they were off. No photos but I remember it well. 3
jaymcminn Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Standoff through the sliding door that went on for an hour... all parties involved eventually got bored and wandered away. 5 2

There was a big one basking in the road the other day. This one was about four feet, which is about as big as I've ever seen. They tend to keep to themselves and they're not aggressive unless you're determined to do something stupid. The only time I've ever been scared by one is when it fell out of the live oak tree in my front yard about three feet away from me when I was doing yard work. We both took off in opposite directions at top speed! 5 2
bobss396 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I was outside in late summer waiting for the bats to appear. I was in a chair and a raccoon comes with in 5 feet of me. I do not know who jumped higher. 1 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 County "code enforcement" truck out in the street as I was drinking my second cup of coffee, went out to meet him, reminded him of what he'd wanted done, showed him the paperwork and tags on the remaining vehicles, everything's fine, I'm once again an upstanding citizen in "compliance". We both smiled, I thanked him for working with me, we shook hands, he drove away. Though I still somewhat resent being told what to do on private property because some busybody Karen complained, I really don't have any gripes with the county guy. No power trip, no pushing authority, very friendly and reasonable attitude. It'd be nice if every interaction with the gubmint went so well. 4
LennyB Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I used to have a Karen, Sonny. He would complain about my cars but he didn't really have any thing to complain about as all my vehicles were registered. Sonny had a heart attack about 10 years ago, he's no longer a problem. Wonder if the stress from worrying about everyone else's business did him in. 1 1
jaymcminn Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Welp, I was wondering how Bandit the Cat's iguana buddy was doing after our recent cold snap. Got my answer today... Since I seem to have a "pet" Iguana now I think he needs a name. In honor of his stripey tail I think I'll call him Tiger! 4
Tim W. SoCal Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 I woke up this morning while it was still dark outside and headed for the living room to catch up on some TV. Just as I sat down, the motion-detector activated flood lights on my patio came on. I got up the check it out and watched a large racoon amble across my patio and then jump the short fence to the side yard where our trash cans reside. Shooed the poor racoon away before he got a chance to raid the trash can and make a mess...

Ace-Garageguy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 6 hours ago, slusher said: Here Bill ,you only have tags if your using the vehicle sitting on your property does not matter… In Georgia, at least in this county, stored vehicles outside that are visible have to be tagged too, or they have to be removed from the property. The county "logic" stems from the additional requirement that any vehicles on residential property have to be "operational", and if the county Code Enforcement Officer wants to be a real butt, he can make you start and drive any cars you have. Believe me, after I got the first "warning" from the Code Enforcement guy, I double checked the laws...and had to remove (and store elsewhere) several vehicles that won't currently pass the emissions test, and consequently can't be tagged. I am now an upstanding citizen in full compliance, with my head respectfully bowed to authority. (What a bunch of hogwash.) 1
johnyrotten Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) Got home to be greeted by the whole herd. I tried to "line up both pictures, there's 7-8 of them that hang around. Edited February 1 by johnyrotten Spelling 6
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Not what I saw, but what I didn't see until it was too late. Came in this PM, checked the mailbox, came on inside...and started smelling the unmistakable aroma of fresh dog doo. Though I of course wiped my feet on the doormat, I still managed to track some of it inside, and I'm trying to find the source of the stink. I put my shoes outside to clean 'em, then went to the mailbox in flip-flops, being very wary, and sure enough, there's a nice little damp pile, not at all obvious, but very recent...and with my footprint in it. I really wonder what the thought process is of somebody who doesn't want their dog's exhaust in their own yard, but has no problem leaving it in mine. It's only been the last year (of 10) this has been happening, as the neighborhood "demographics" continue to change...along with the constant deluge of trash bags, fast food wrappers, lottery tickets, beer cans, and the occasional old mattress or bald tire. 2

Our neighborhood has quite few individuals that walk their dogs daily and they do carry poop bags to pick up their dogs 💩, but I wish they would use their own yards instead. What gets me is the yellow spots from someone's dog that apparently is on medication. I'm with you, if you have a yard than let the dog do it's business there! As for trash, very seldom will there be any, I chalk it up to not having may kids in the neighborhood. 2
