Hi there,

a flawed kit of a beautiful car. Had a hard time finding the motivation to finish it.

Painted in original Ferrari color "Blu Chiaro Metallizzato" which I really like a lot.

I have the 1/16 scale Fujimi kit, hope it's better.  I see why you say that, but sitting on the shelf or diorama display with other cars you won't notice.  Nice color, different than the usual red.  And you finished it, that's the best part!

Wow, that's one sharp looking 512! ?

Big props for finishing it up, I know from experience it is not a pleasant build.

I say sometimes the ones that fight you are the most satisfying, especially when they turn out like this. It looks superb, and l do love the licence plate. ??

Looks great. I have built quite few Fujimi kits, but never looked into the box of one of these. What are its flaws?

That’s beautiful!  Nice to see it contrasted with the Testarossa.
How did you get the rear clamshell (engine cover) to fit so well?  I found this to be a poor fit on mine.

I do have the 1/16 too. It has 255 parts compare to the 1/24's 136 parts. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad. ?

The most obvious flaw is that the the Campagnolo wheels are way too large. On the built model they rather appear to be 17 inches whereas they should be 15 inches. The kit's tyres on the other hand are small, probably the correct size. But they don't fit on the wheels. So you end up looking for fitting tyre in the parts box. Needless to say, the overall look is a bit "restomod" for a classic Ferrari. ?

Other than that, it's the engineering of the kit in the rear area. The fitting of the body on the chassis did not work properly, neither did the "system" that Fujimi had in mind for having a working (moving) clamshell.

At least it did not work for me...

Good question, see my comments above. I ended up with placing the clamshell loosely on the rear. Not a good solution, but the best one I could find...

I can see a challenge coming my way. I love the car and now that you pointed out the issues with the clam shell, I’m anxious to try make it work. So I may be licking one of these kits up.

I have always liked Boxers and Testarossas so I was very pleased to see your two gorgeous examples. I am disappointed to learn the Fujimi kit has flaws. The first 512BB kit I bought for $4 was a motorized version with opening doors from the Tokyo Marui Co. Ltd. maybe tellingly without tires and wheels [maybe they were OK !!??] I later acquired a Fujimi kit figuring between the two I could build a decent Boxer. I just pulled the Fujimi kit out of the stash and see what you mean regarding the wheels and tires. I remember seeing a resto-mod Boxer in Forza magazine so maybe that is the way mine will be built !!

The tyres on the Marui kit do look good from what I can see in the post below. I still have that kit in my stash back from the days when the Fujimi had not been released yet. After the disappointment with the Fujimi kit, I saw the Studion27 kit (resin kit, curbside) on offer somewhere and bought it. It will make for a nice and easy build free of problems, I hope and expect. And it DOES have the right wheels and tyres and PE parts for all the right places.
