Greasefinger Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) Designed by Ferdinand Porsche the Mercedes-Benz SSK was a roadster built in years 1928 to 1932. A total of 33 SSKs were built during its production span, of which about half were sold as racing cars (Wikipedia). This Lindberg kit is originally from 1966 and the one I built a reboxing from 2006 (Scalemates). The kit itself was of good quality. According to reference pictures the real car didn´t have whitewall tires which the kit strangely had. Exterior color (inspired by member Joe Lange) is automotive paint, interior Tamiya XF-93, dashboard is Vallejo woodgrain and clear orange and most of the chrome is Alclad. Model Guy Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Got this kit in my stash hope it turns out as good as yours great job!
Chuckyg1 Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Really nice. Don't think I've seen one completed before. Great choice of color, it suits it.
Jim B Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Beautiful Mercedes. Very well done. That woodgrain looks great. I just might have to look into that.
espo Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Great looking paint finishes and trim. Good color for this.
lordairgtar Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 I have two of these kits. I need to put them in the queue.
Chinacar Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 The solid colour gives it a totally different look from the box art. Almost more modern compared with the tutone. Good choice. Nice job.

Bainford Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) Fine looking Mercedes. Nice work. It's great to see the oldies posted. I have long been curious about this kit. I see it builds up very nicely. Edited December 4, 2024 by Bainford 1
Cliff W Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Nice job! I had one back in the day. Not as well built as yours, of course! Looks very close to the Revs Institute SSK. 1
Andrew McD Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Very nice build! I have this one and ran into problems with the exhaust pipes, there was absolutely no way I could get them to route out from under the hood and down through the fender......just wouldn't fit no matter what I tried. You've made it work so obviously I just completely missed something about how they fit in place. My kit was also missing the windshield and windshield frame which surprised me as it was a sealed box.

Thanks. I also had trouble with the exhaust pipes, but after some sanding of the pipes’ top end grooves and using some power they finally settled in to the locator points in the engine. That was actually the only part of the kit that did not fit like a piece of cake. The windshield in my kit was scratched so I had to build it from thin clear plastic. Fortunately the frame was in the kit, couldn’t scratch build that.
Ken Car-Fanatic Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 That looks really good. I've always been a bit hesitant of the Lindburg kits, but your build with this one looks great! Also agree about the color choices which look great on that car. Very nice!
Pierre Rivard Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Beautiful build Kapo. The color you chose is a really good fit for this design. I'm just about to start this one and your's will be a good reference to follow. How did you handle the gauges (there are no decals for them)?

For the gauges I drilled a hole for each gauge, then cut the pictures of the gauges from the kit package cardboard (they were quite the right size), glued them to the back of the dash and covered the holes with gloss lacquer to make the gauges look more realistic. The bezels were made of 0,25 mm metal wire. They are not perfect but good enough for me. Edited December 9, 2024 by Greasefinger 1
