Go to the masthead (list of magazine editors, contributers, etc.) in the front of the magazine and look for "Sales & Marketing" under "Adverting Inquiries".

The latest issue I have on hand is #222 from 2023. It lists Wes Hofferber (wes@modelcarsmag.com), but I do not know if he still holds that position.

The most recent issue also lists Wes at the above email address as the guy to contact for "Advertising Inquiries", so I suspect he's your man...

Some model magazines (like FineScale Modeler) had a special discounted rate in the ad section for advertising model contests and similar events.  But realistically, this is year 2025 and the advertising section in printed magazines is pretty much non-existent. Most of this happens online now.  Using social media for show announcement provides much larger (and free) audience, which then gets to even larger audience by others sharing the info with their friends.

The club I belong to has our show flyer downloadable as a PDF file on our website and it is also shared on Facebook.  That is likely better coverage than just a printed version in a magazine.  I'm old-fashion  and I enjoy reading hard copy magazines, but I also realize that I'm a dinosaur and the future is on the Internet.

A successful publicity campaign for a model contest needs multiple channels. Print is good if you can run for a few months prior. At a minimum, you need flyers, preferably with QR codes, in local hobby shops, game shops if you have a figure category, and anywhere else builders congregate. You also need social media. Facebook, BlueSky, and Instagram are the essentials.
