Rich Chernosky Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Time to start getting them done. This kit was painted and polished on 1/11/11. Color on this was Testors Laquer 1845M and clear coated with their Wet Look clear. I go throuigh phases where I paint a lot of cars and them put them back in the box. I have a lot of these after all these years. Sometimes i will do 8-10 of them at a time and this one of these. So here it is. Build info is in the picture captions. thanks for looking and feel free to comment. Lots of ooooh/aaah factor here. Revell put a lot of effort into this 5litre V8. So much detail but most of it is hidden. Red letters on the engine cover was done by bare metal foiling them before painting with Tamiya x-18 Semi blk. Then the letters were exposed with a paper towel and some solvent. Finally a red magic marker provided the color. Kit was done mostly box stock except for my signature steering wheels. Body fit was exceptional. Polished paint attracts dust like a magnet. I keep and dust brush on the photo stand but in this case it was to no avail. Rear veiw had some nice detail. Tailights and markers were cast in red plastic. Interior is Tamiya LP Nato Black. Stance on this kit was very good so no adjustments were necessary. The C5 Corvette was a landmark car and featured many new innovative features. The car was almost totally re-designed and marked the beginning of making the Corvette into an American super car. 12
happy grumpy Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Great build Rich. That green is really shinny. If only we could scale dust. 😊
karbuildr Posted January 20 Posted January 20 As a Corvette lover, I find your build very well done. Looks very good in green. I do the same thing with painting my kits.

Only way I could really get it clean was with masking tape. Not real happy with my photos or photo area either. . Might be the camera. YOUR photos...on the other hand..!!!! 1 minute ago, karbuildr said: As a Corvette lover, I find your build very well done. Looks very good in green. I do the same thing with painting my kits. Thanks David....if only you knew how many kits just have the bodies painted....Corvettes are also my favorite to play paint artist with. They look good in just about anything. All my boxed Corvettes are painted.

I have 15 bodies painted, some even the interiors painted, some polished, then back in the box, sometimes for many years like yours. Painting is my favorite part of our hobby, both airbrushing and rattle cans. 1
Dragonhawk1066 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Nice Vette! That was a surprisingly nice kit with lots of details. I had a lot of fun building mine too.

Have had the Z06 kit but never built it, now only some parts remain might need to get me one stock C5 also. I do have several C5R’s. on the magnetic point. I try to wash my body after polish with automotive shampoo with some wax in it. That removes the static effect. Also a detailer for cars works good if you don’t want to put it under the tap water. Remember to use a goood microfiber polishing rag, I have a Mr turtle orange with long fur. That will make your life easier.
espo Posted January 21 Posted January 21 The color shows the body lines, and the finish looks nice and smooth. Nicely detailed engine. I thought the dust was from driving onto the gravel parking lot in the pictures.

I have my display cases and most are built using plexiglas for door s and shelving. I treat them with a product call Gel Gloss which is made for fibreglas tubs and other plastics. It also kills the static charge. Don't use it on my models though. The fight against dust continues. May move my photo area out of the laundry...that might be some of the problem. Will look forward to you C5 builds. On 1/21/2025 at 12:57 PM, espo said: The color shows the body lines, and the finish looks nice and smooth. Nicely detailed engine. galaxyg Posted January 25 Posted January 25 My favourite Corvette. Great looking build. I think the C5 would not look out of place in any modern line-up of cars - certainly from the outside anyway. Yeah, that dust is a pain. Always seems to attract itself to models even more when there's a camera around...
