RIXprints Posted March 24 Posted March 24 You can step up to a larger scale very easily. It's hard to go back to the little ones though. How about a Henry J?
kelson Posted March 24 Posted March 24 A standard flat hood for the 69"Camaro would be interesting.🤠 1
LDO Posted March 25 Posted March 25 (edited) How about a Lamborghini Espada or 350GT? Edited March 25 by LDO 5
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted March 25 Posted March 25 All good! How about an Alfa Romeo Duetto like what was in the movie The Graduate.
RIXprints Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 Hmmmmm, let me see, imports.... I have a vintage Jag racecar, a 49 Anglia, a Volkswagon squareback, a Fiat Topolino and a Ferrari 250 GTO. If someone wants to buy the print file, some are over $350, I would gladly print all the parts at cost plus.
Junkman Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I want to get rid of my big scales. They just take up too much real estate. 1
Young iron Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I love big scales. Even if 1/12 and bigger require huge painting spaces, I guess 1/16 is just accurate. Just coming back to modeling after a 8-year stop, I heat-up skills before starting a 1/16 MPC 1980 T/A.
DJMar Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I'm on the fence about larger scale stuff, in general. My spares boxes are filled with 45+ years of 1:24/25 pieces, so that limits parts swapping with other scales, especially with wheels/tires. I like the idea of 1:12/16/18 scale kits, and the ability to have more detail, but the reality is that the subject matter would have to be really interesting to me before I would buy. For example, I think the Revell 1:12 scale Camaro is an excellent kit, but I've built a handful of 1:25 Camaros over the last three decades, so I've no need for a large scale counterpart.
Luc Janssens Posted April 14 Posted April 14 All 3 of the second generation Dodge Chargers would be neat to see as 1/12th scale kits.
ChrisBcritter Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I've seen the Henry J listed in 1/25 on eBay; the file definitely needs more work (front of hood and the grille are too flat).
SpeedAndViolence Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I'll take a Cobra Daytona Coupe please. But only if it can be purchased without financing.
Brudda Posted June 13 Posted June 13 I really like big scale. Kind of fell into it with my friend Mark pushing me into it, and I’m glad he did. Here is a few big scale. Some 1/8. But I just built a 1/43 corvette. Weird I guess. But I thought I would give the small scale a try . The black cobra and the Ferrari P4 are 1/12. The Porsche engine is a 1/12 . The others except the little blue corvette is 1/8. These are just a few. 4
bbowser Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Wonderful models, but where do you display them? I barely have room for the 1/24-5 that I have.
Rbray47 Posted June 13 Posted June 13 I've built a handful as a teenager. I like the ability to better detail them, but display and storage was an issue. I mainly build trucks now, and there aren't many that are larger than 1/24.

Hello bbowser, I have them displayed in a model room and a few in a display case in another room. I’m lucky to have a big house to put these in. As long as they are displayed right , my wife is ok with it, I have a few of these old stereo cabinets to display them. The great thing is the cases are free. One example: 2

It will probably be a long time before I have to worry about that as like many of us the ratio of unbuilt to built kits I have is about five to one. 1
Bugatti Fan Posted Thursday at 06:58 PM Posted Thursday at 06:58 PM (edited) Bruce is well qualified to comment on large scale models having built quite a number of demos for Agora. I have followed some of his detailed builds of those 1/8th scale gems. I looked at some built up models on Agora's display stand at IPMS UK Scale Modelworld , Telford, England for the last two shows and must say how impressive those models are. I don't know if any of Bruce's work was amongst them, but the models were very good. I would love the opportunity to build just one. Perhaps one day. Who knows ? Or maybe a 1/12th scale MFH kit. ?? Hello Noel, thank you for the great comments on the 1/8 cars. None of my builds were there in Britain. My friend Mark ( the agora rep for the USA ) met up with Liam co founder of Agora last month. I built the super snake Shelby GT 500 for Agora and it’s now on display at Shelby American in Las Vegas. The guys at Shelby American presented me with the Special Award at the 2021 IPMS nationals for the black cobra 427 pictured. That award opened a big opportunity for free 1/8 models . I build them and post them on the agora site. And help with problems for customers. I would not normally buy these expensive kits , I was lucky because Mark is the agora rep and a big contributor to our IPMS model club. He gave me a Toyota 2000 a few years ago and that really took off. I built that one for DeAgostini. Luck, at the right place at the right time, knowing the USA rep helps. But it’s mostly luck. I had to start slowing them down. Could not keep up. I have a new work relationship with the 296 Ferrari challenge cars so my time is mostly taken on those. I have 6 1/8 kits in my shed unbuilt. I’m in the middle of a 1/8 agora gull wing Mercedes build. I just gave away the yellow Muira to a friend. I turned my friend Steve ( a fantastic model builder and a IPMS nationals winner) to continue the 1/8 builds. He loves it. . So Noel it was mostly luck and I’m very fortunate to be a part of these builds. Thank you for your comments. P.S. the red cobra and the GT 40 are the easiest builds. If you need more info on the big cars , let me know if you buy one and I can tell you if it’s a tough build or what to look out for. Oh I’m also building a Ferrari 250 GTO and that is a tough build. So far the Gullwing is pretty good. The Muira was a very tough build. But I believe everyone should try to build one in their lifetime. A lot of room for modifications, extra detailing , change the paint color etc. Also it’s the first thing people look at because it’s so big .
Bugatti Fan Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) Hi Bruce. Like your friend now building the Miura, I have also been lucky enough to have achieved some gold and silver awards on my side of the pond at our IPMS UK SMW Telford over a number of years. The Agora model cars are really impressive and maybe one day if I get a little windfall will be able to obtain one. It would be very nice to build up one or two demo models for Agora UK having plenty of time now I am retired. I had thought about approaching them but am reluctant as I expect that they get loads of wannabe offers already, so it will have to remain just wishful thinking, and just take pleasure in reading about other model makers achievements like your own with them. However, since retiring I have had a go at doing a bit of scratch building The Nieuport Dubonnet Hispano Suiza, a Bugatti Type 59 and the Brooklands Napier Railton that have kept me out of mischief so far !
