slusher Posted April 19 Posted April 19 (edited) Bad thing is some fall for it , like the elderly… Edited April 19 by slusher 1
Mark Posted April 19 Posted April 19 A couple of people were recently convicted in my area, for scamming elderly people. They were posing as grandchildren claiming they were being detained in a foreign country. My mom used to get a scam call every so often. I answered a couple of them, they'd say they are calling from "your bank". And what bank is that? "Your bank". What, you don't know which bank you work for? What sign was on the building when you got to work today? Mom had a legit excuse when someone asked for bank account or credit card numbers. She knew not to give out that info over the phone, but she'd just tell them she couldn't see well enough to read the numbers off of a statement even if she was dumb enough to do such a thing. They'd try on a couple of occasions, then get a clue and go elsewhere.
NOBLNG Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I have voice messaging on my land line and cell phone. We also have call display and never answer if we don’t recognize the number. If it’s genuine or important they can leave a message. Scammers never leave a message. I do get the occasional text or e-mail posing as my bank asking me to click on a link. I report them as spam and delete them. 1
Can-Con Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Mike, that's actual mail fraud and if that letter was mailed in Canada they're looking at up to 10 years in the pen. The Canadian government takes that kind of thing very seriously. You can report it at this link ,, https://antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm
1930fordpickup Posted April 19 Posted April 19 My dad started answering "I'm broke" as a joke because he had 11 kids. He said you cant believe how many people hang up. Before and after the cell phone. A good friends mom had a guy swindle her out of money. He told her he was going to come to town to Marry her. Lead her on like they had something going on. There's was nothing the kids could do because she sent the money on her own free will and she was in her right mind just elderly was not good enough.
John M. Posted April 19 Posted April 19 (edited) If greed hadn't existed, the world would be a better place for all. Unfortunately, there are still lowlifes who'll make a fast buck swindling anybody such as our senior citizens as Slusher has pointed out. Edited April 19 by John M.
Chuckyg1 Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I received a text from con Edison, the local utility company. It was "Pete" telling me I have an outstanding bill and they'd be to my house in 45 minutes to remove my meter unless I paid it off. If you're gonna scam me, at least make it believable.
89AKurt Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Congratulations, your number has been selected to be called even more now. 🤣 I watched a show about scammers in a Third World [blankity blank] who are raking it in, amazing. I had an Amazon call, got the phone #. So when is the party?
Mike 1017 Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 I may go to the local police station and drop off this letter. Also, there is a Del-Web complex across the road from me. I may go to the Administrators Office and drop off a copy to them Mike

Doesn't matter if you're in the U.S., they'll definitely want to know about it. I suspect the local police and whoever else will take one look at it, have a laugh and chuck it in the garbage.
