Rockford Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) I think ive just had the shortest Facebook membership ever. I signed up (against my better judgement) to look at Facebook Marketplace, as we've just moved house and are looking at offloading "stuff" and acquiring other "stuff". Whilst on I went looking for 1/32 trucks because I'd seen a group come up on image searches. One of the first things I see is two images of MY 1/32 Freightliner cabover being used to advertise 1/25 3D printed kits! I was incensed. I left a comment on both images stating that they were not the product being sold, and that they were being used without my permission and had been lifted from this forum. I know it's a compliment really because the person thinks that there's no difference between my 1/32 snapper and a 1/25 AMT but it's misrepresentation and very wrong. I thought "I've been on 5 minutes and im already seeing stuff that's bent, and even using my work to perpetrate their lies!" I decided i wanted no part of such a setup and deleted my account. Am I being too sensitive? Edited May 3 by Rockford Grammar 6
stitchdup Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Your not the first its happened to. A member on another forum found a build thread for his motorbike on a youtube channel that gets paid for content 2
1930fordpickup Posted May 3 Posted May 3 It's your choice to stay off of facebook. I would not be happy about the use of a build without permission . I don't think I would have deleted my account but I don't blame you.

If I had a presence on there then maybe I'd approach it differently but I didn't see the advantage of it. 3

If it wasn't the main thing I use to keep in touch with people and family that I don't live by, I would have deleted my profile long ago. 2 1
Bainford Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) Agreed! You are not missing anything. I have an account, but haven't really used it since 2013. Aside from all the noise and garbage that makes up 95% of fakebook content, I was dismayed at all of the stupid and asinine comments and re-posts made by friends and other people I looked up to. I started to think everyone I knew was a bloody idiot, and figured I was better off just not knowing this dreck. And I was right. I used to look for old kits for sale on kijiji, but the model offerings there have been drying up over the last while, so in the last year I have tentatively ventured onto fakebook market place a couple times to see if there are kits there for sale, and there are, though haven't bought from there yet. Maybe I'll visit there every few months for that purpose, but that's it. Even then, I feel as though I have to wash the taste out of my mouth whenever I visit. Edited May 5 by Bainford 5 1
webestang Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I was on FB for about 2 months a long time ago. Hated it. No idea how my nephew can work for them. Oh wait, he gets paid big bucks, gets free breakfast and lunch, free well equipped gym with showers to use and can get his laundry done for free as well. 1

Well if people are using your stuff and you're not there to file complaints on it, they're gonna keep using your stuff and you just won't know or be able to do anything about it. 2
PappyD340 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I gave up facebook awhile back, I commented on a modelers build and the comment was " great looking build" and that was it and I immediately got a reply to the effect that it was an inappropriate comment and I said you've got to be kidding me so I said they could have that sh!t and could stick it where the sun doesn't shine I deleted my account and I'm never going back, facebook ain't good people!! 6
Brian Austin Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Watermark your pictures. FB is like any public space. Most of my Groups are drama free. On the other hand my former model club meetings were a lot like the negative aspects of FB at times. I'm not a sure FB is any worse than dealing with people in real life. 2

People seem to say all kinds of stupid things online, especially when they're upset. It's a bit like watching someone's inner monologue which can be disturbing and will permanently alter your perception of that person. 4

And if you think the reactions here are a little crazy, the model groups there are pure insanity. It is entertaining at times from a voyeuristic point of view. 1
SpeedAndViolence Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I'm right there with you. Deleted my account as well. A complete cloaca of human depravation that I want no part of, even on my most boring day. "Cloaca" Look it up and you will agree. 😆 1
Bugatti Fan Posted Friday at 06:15 PM Posted Friday at 06:15 PM (edited) To Facebook or not to Facebook ? That is the question ! Like most open unmoderated social media outlets, there is a lot of good stuff to look at on there but there is also an awful lot of dross too ! I have chosen not to use FB. You tube can be a media outlet that also suffers as I get the impression that there are a great many so called experts who are self opinionated mediocre model makers striving to get their viewing numbers up to a point that attracts commercial advertisers and therefore becomes a cash incentive for them to keep churning out average builds. Good stuff can unfortunately get lost in amongst the quagmire of average output. But at least with YouTube one does not have to sign up to look at anything on it like FB.I Quite happy using forums like this one ! Edited Friday at 06:25 PM by Bugatti Fan 2
Tyreman Posted yesterday at 01:48 AM Posted yesterday at 01:48 AM (edited) I have a lifetime facebook ban...they think i am pretending to be me!...account integrity violation...i am not jumping through hoops to get my account back....i do not like it anyway ....the problem i have with model groups is everything at once...overload! hard to see new completed builds....its what is 40% off at hobbyloby (i am UK) or its tailpipe tuesday! etc....it is nice to join a forum and we can stay on topic and i have no clue of members political views. A good honest post! the good thing is we choose what we watch! facebook if i know there political opinion then i am soon not a fan even if a talented builder (yes i know wrong) i can not help myself...i agree that the most talented youtube builders often have the lowest number of subscribers...if i want to be entertained i will read a book or watch a movie...all i want to see on youtube is a completed builds....it is not radio Edited yesterday at 02:29 AM by Tyreman

I will not lie i often went on facebook drunk...no excuse! but wish my laptop had a breatherliser before allowing me online...guilty as charged! i am 52 and i have moderated forums in the past, i would never consider sharing my problems on a forum! social media not good due to constant triggers of emotions one second a family birth, next post a death, and political news often propoganda meant to make people feel anxious all within a few minutes,we can not cope with mixed emotions constantly ..so triggers people to be upset and post stupid things ...what are these tech billionaires doing to our kids mental health? how does it wire a young brain? good point Sir. Bugatti Fan Posted yesterday at 06:57 AM Posted yesterday at 06:57 AM A title of one of Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns just about sums up social media generally in very few words. THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY. 1 1
