NOBLNG Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) This is exactly the same process as the easy radiator cap idea. Only this time I used tamiya thin cement to “weld” a 0.16” wide strip of 0.040” Evergreen to a piece of 0.080” rod. Slice off a sliver and Voila! Add a tiny stub of 0.040” or 0.060” for a window crank. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/198003-easy-radiator-cap/#comment-2997190 It’s definitely better than what some kits are equipped with.🥴 Edited May 6 by NOBLNG 13 7
Beans Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Great idea. Definitely better than starting from scratch for each one. 1
Hi-Po Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I have always built mine from scratch but no more! This is a great idea and method, and I will be using it for all of my future builds. Thank you. 1
R. Thorne Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Bully! More good stuff from Greg. Thank you for taking the time to help others. 1
customline Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Ooooooo......I love it! I wish I had thought of it, Greg. Maybe if you had just not thought about it a bit longer........naaaah 😔. 2
TarheelRick Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Don't like it. It's too simple and I like doing it the more complicated, less efficient way. Actually, that is a very ingenious idea and should change my building time quite a bit. Thanks for sharing it. 1
NOBLNG Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Use 0.030” for the handle part if you have it. It looks less clunky and a little more in scale than the 0.040”. 1 2
Dragline Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Brilliant! Making one this afternoon. Kit cranks are bye bye. Thank you Sir... 1
customline Posted Thursday at 12:44 AM Posted Thursday at 12:44 AM I made one today 😇. I used some .040 X .188 strip and grafted it to some .100 rod. I added a bit of 1/16" for the knob. Slicing it up can be somewhat challenging for a cranky old man but it's totally do-able, even for a space cadet. 😏 1
