Spottedlaurel Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Pretty much completely OOB build of this simple but effective curbside kit: RiKo imported Tamiya kits to the UK in the 1980s, so this version must date back to when the car was current. Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf base coat and lower portion, then TS-54 Light Metallic Blue with Mr Hobby Gloss Clear, all from cans. Trim detailing with XF-85 Rubber Black. Quite basic underneath with metal rod axles but most of the exhaust system was a separate moulding at least. Interior also fairly simple, with the sides part of the main tub. The seat decals were a little challenging, but I'm glad I persevered with them. Overall a straightforward and simple thing to build, perhaps the biggest challenge being the masking for the two-tone paintwork and also the amount of black trim detailing that had to be done. Looks good in the cabinet and it's great to have a representation of such an unusual subject alongside the more common Skylines etc of the time. 8
Pete75 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Excellent work. First rate. Must confess, the subject is new one on me - good to broaden one's horizons! The front end reminds me of a Fiat X19 and a Toyota MR2. Don't know what "influenced" what?! 1
DJMar Posted June 11 Posted June 11 That's sweet! Really clean build, I haven't seen one of these kits in ages. 1
titino Posted June 12 Posted June 12 Hi Nigel, very nice model, the color is a great choice. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing; I hadn't seen it assembled before. 1
espo Posted June 12 Posted June 12 Great looking paint colors and finish. Like the interior inserts on the seats. 1
Spottedlaurel Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Thanks everyone for the comments. I do have another version of it to build someday, which will be modified but I'm not yet sure how - it looks mad enough as stock. Pro-Street?! On 6/12/2025 at 3:08 PM, ncbuckeye67 said: Nicely done! I love the two-tone colors. Man, that was some tricky masking (one of my least favourite jobs). Much of the dividing line was on the outside of a curve/bend. Luckily it worked-out, with the help of getting a bit of clear onto the tape edge first. On 6/12/2025 at 6:34 PM, espo said: Great looking paint colors and finish. Like the interior inserts on the seats. Getting those decals on took an unduly long time! Despite their age they didn't crack, but once placed they just wouldn't slide so I had to get them lined-up very accurately before letting them touch the seat. 2
