James2 Posted June 13 Posted June 13 (edited) Inspiration: I saw a 64 wagon converted to a two door and thought this would be an interesting twist. Donor kits starting with an AMT 64 Impala SS and a 65 Chevelle Wagon. I first cut the long roof off and after several test fits I then removed the Impala roof to graft the two pieces together. NOBLNG Posted June 13 Posted June 13 (edited) Cool project!👍 Are you planning on shortening it up any?😈 Chevy did build 2 door Chevelle wagons. https://www.curbsideclassic.com/curbside-classics-american/1964-chevelle-300-2-door-station-wagon-it-should-have-been-called-nomad-why-did-they-build-these-anyway/ Edited June 13 by NOBLNG
espo Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Like how you retained a portion of the original kits roof and drip rails. Makes a lot of sense to keep the impala window shapes and surprising how the rear window opening lines from the Chevelle wagon roof lines up with the trunk opening lines on the Impala body.
James2 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Some filler and a quick mock up, added some pins to help hold things in place. I will not be shortening this, it’s called a long roof for a reason! 14
rickcaps55 Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Nice I like how this is looking will be along for the ride.! Keep the pictures coming.!
TECHMAN Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Now this is ONE COOL IDEA!!!!! Shame that Chevy didn't think of that!!!! DJ
TarheelRick Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Going to be an interesting build. I have an affinity for long roofs.
dino246gt Posted June 18 Posted June 18 That's very nicely integrated! And it IS a LOOOOONG roof! LOL Looks great so far, and I'm sure you'll make it look so cool!
James2 Posted June 19 Author Posted June 19 Body work on the roof continues and I added a full length package shelf. I wanted to keep the original alignment pins for the chassis. 3
James2 Posted June 21 Author Posted June 21 I tried this Tamiya Putty and find it much better than Squadron or Automotive Spot Putty. It’s easier to apply and sands so much nicer than anything I’ve used before. Body work is going well, priming up next. 5
James2 Posted Sunday at 12:11 PM Author Posted Sunday at 12:11 PM Thanks, I'm happy with the way the chop turned out so far. I need to continue smoothing the seams and then, weather permitting, shoot some primer. I do see some faded lace in the roof's future!
chris chabre Posted Sunday at 03:03 PM Posted Sunday at 03:03 PM I LOVE IT! Probably gonna steal it too
James2 Posted Thursday at 09:27 AM Author Posted Thursday at 09:27 AM It’s been real hot and humid here, no chance of painting anything. Thankfully the basement is cool and dry. So I’ll wait on the Bronco and work on the wagon. Shaving, smoothing and shaping. Now that the roof is good I’ll move onto the rest of the body. 3
