Dragline Posted June 23 Posted June 23 This is the Jimmy Flintstone clone of the old Aurora kit in resin. When these first arrived I was giddy with excitement. The Splits were one of my favorite shows as a child. I saw sneak peek type pictures and was stoked to get a copy for my collection. When they arrived with a price of 99.99 I was NOT stoked. That is far and away not a great price for this kit. They were playing against nostalgia no doubt. So I put it on the back burner. Then a few months ago I see them on sale for 49.99 on eBay. At that point I was OK with the price. So I pulled the trigger and got one. I'm not sure if it was quality that was a problem, but once I got it and opened the box I was disappointed. Tons of flash and ragged edges as well as short shot in a few places. If they shipped this quality at 100 dollars I can see why they may have not done well. I suspect that this lot was either 2nd quality or rushed for the sale. Either way I now have Banana Splits on my shelf. After fixing most of the large booboo's I painted them as seen on the show. I still need pink and purple polka dots for Snorkie's buggy. Either some decal prints or careful paint work. So I now have them and that's what matters. 10
ColonelKrypton Posted June 23 Posted June 23 One banana, two bananas .... Now you've done it! I am gonna have that theme song running around and stuck in my head all day! Very nicely done. I was not aware that Aurora or anyone else had done kits of these characters. cheers, Graham 1 1
TonyK Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Too bad about the quality of the figures but your work paid off. They look great. I remember watching them as a kid also and had a couple (or was it one?) 45's of their music. Thanks for the memories. 1
Dragline Posted June 23 Author Posted June 23 (edited) I knew the nostalgia would heavy with this group. We are largely of an age to remember these characters. I am sure more will weigh in on their recollections when they see this post. It's the very reason I bought them. And Yes, the song will haunt you should you start playing it in your head. Best thing to do is seek it out on YouTube and get it over with. Edited June 23 by Dragline 2
Warren D Posted June 23 Posted June 23 I remember that show, what I really wanted was one of those buggies! Now I have that tune stuck in my head.....thanks a bunch.....LOL! 1
Dragline Posted June 23 Author Posted June 23 (edited) If you are wondering why they all have their hand in the same place it's because they were all meant to drive the buggy. Each Split has how own sunglass design which goes on the front of the buggy. So it corresponds with which figure you decide is driving as to which sunglass design you place there. I liked Snorky's buggy the best since it has all the polka dots (Absent at the moment) so he drives. In the picture you see white ish film over the lens centers of the buggy. That is Mod Podge drying. Edited June 23 by Dragline 2
DJMar Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky would be proud. Your paint work has done them justice. As soon as I saw the title of this post I started singing the theme song (in my head). 1 1 1

SSNJim Posted June 23 Posted June 23 What scale are these? You've done a nice job on them. I have the Amphicat that Jack L mentioned, and was thinking they'd be cool when I was building mine. I love that theme song - it's a happy and fun song and video. I go watch it on YouTube every so often. 1
Dragline Posted June 23 Author Posted June 23 They seem like 1/24 scale to me. They are about right when placed next to an automobile of either 1/24 or 1/25 scale
slusher Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Great build! I remember when they was on television 📺 Well done! 1
