I am guessing they have not fixed the undersized wheels however, that is the one part of this kit that is disappointing since they are such a large part of the look!

And don't forget the lil "nubs" for sideview mirrors molded to the body! I'm sure they didn't fix those either.

I thought those were nubs to mount the mirrors until I noticed there were none on the sprues! 😆

I ordered the standard '91 Beretta with the optional V6, sport suspension, gauge cluster, cruise, ac, automatic trans.  I thought the tires were too small on the car and should have been a bit bigger to better fill up the wheel openings.  It was a good car that I kept for 9 years.  I sold it to a relative since I started having pain in my left hip and there was not adequate footwell space to stretch your leg out.  Note in my photo that the tires are quite small.

I guess the model is accurate in that sense... in that it started out as an (MPC) base model promo didn't it?

I can't really remember what it looked like assembled, (except that I liked how it turned out) but the '88 or so MPC issue was one of the first kits I ever had. (Maybe even THE first) :D

No, not really. regular ones had smaller wheels and tires as Jim shows.

BUT GTZs had 16" wheels with 206/55R16 tires. Larger then my base model Trans Ams.

I meant that the wheel/tire size was accurate for the tooling's original subject, but that when they made it into the GTZ, they didn't bother to make the wheels larger. I guess just so they could keep using the same tires & wheelbacks from the original mpc kit?

Not that they couldn't / shouldn't have tooled up new ones for the upcoming re-release... maybe they did?

Ah, I see what you mean. You're probably right about the wheel backs. IIRC, they had 3 sizes of Goodyear Gatorbacks at the time,  the smallest size of those would have looked better but the wheels would have looked undersized in them without retooling both the outer rims and body color centers which are separate parts. But then again they might have showed up in the kits too late for the GTZ.

The Eagle GS-C tires that were in some kits in the '00s and '10s like the 4th gen F-bodies would have been a good choice for the reissue.

The Chevy S-10 Xtreme seems to have the same problem.

I would be excited about this kit, if not for the undersized wheels. I could use a set for a couple local cars, a Fiero and a VW Golf. Not sure if the GTZ wheels were ever a popular swap, but at least two guys in my area thought they looked good enough to retrofit.

What's even more baffling is the fact that Ertl HAD THE CORRECT MODEL AND SIZE OF TIRE by the time this version of the kit came out. And yet, they chose to shod this thing with the '70s compact tires.
