1972coronet Posted July 22 Posted July 22 R.I.P. , Mr. Tamiya ( 19-12-1934 to 18-7-2025 ) He passed away on Friday. Here's an article from the Tamiya newsletter : In Memoriam: Mr. Shunsaku Tamiya - TamiyaBlog 1
Pete J. Posted July 22 Posted July 22 It is with great sadness that i post this. I met Mr. Tamiya many times in my life and he was always a gratuitous and caring person. He loved creating the best models in the world and cared very much for those who built them. 3 1 2
TonyK Posted July 22 Posted July 22 He sure provided me with many hours of pleasure building his excellent models. 1

papajohn97 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 (edited) Sad news yesterday, Shunsaki Tamiya, CEO of Tamiya, passed away at the age of 90. A link to the obit is here. It sounds like he was the primary reason that Tamiya kits have been so excellent for so many decades. The image described in the obit of him greeting all the children entering the Japanese hobby show conveys the image of a joyous man whose life work involved much more than just making money. Thank you Tamiya San! RIP. Maybe we can all honor Mr. Tamiya by building one of his wonderful kits or, better yet, gift one to an adult friend or a child we know and get them "hooked" on our wonderful hobby!
