customline Posted Wednesday at 07:05 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:05 PM (edited) I needed coffee, so off I go to Ollie's to pick up a box of K-cups. I was alone (no wife-like supervision) so I wandered over to the toy area just in cas......woah! Look what I found! 👇 How could I not? I should have bought all the ones on the shelf but my kit storage is kinda full right now. This kit looks a lot like the '32 coupe and the Model A kits. I'm impressed. If you don't like the Duvall windshield, (and I know some of us don't,) there is a chopped stock frame (but no glass) you can substitute. There is no flash. The plating is top notch and the scale of things seems right. If you are considering this kit, you may be able to score a few at a good price at your local Ollie's. The instructions are in line with the rest of Revell's "good kits". I won't start this for a while but I may follow the squirrel to see where he goes. Looks like a pretty good kit. NOBLNG Posted Wednesday at 07:37 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:37 PM Nice score! Things do not go on sale like that here in Canada.😕 1
johnyrotten Posted Wednesday at 08:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:28 PM I grabbed one up a while ago, haven't even opened it yet. Thanks for posting the pics,it looks to be a very nice kit. 👍 👍
TopherMcGinnis Posted Wednesday at 08:37 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:37 PM I was just in a nearly local(25 minute ride) to an Ollie's and there wasn't a cool kit like that in there. Reefer trailers, pink Thunderchickens, and some sort of figure model. 2

They sell stock they obtain as buy-outs, close-outs, discontinued, salvaged, stolen property, etc. at sometimes surprising discounts. I like to get my K-cups there. $20 USD for a box of 80 - I drink a lot of coffee. 😳 1

rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted Thursday at 03:22 AM Posted Thursday at 03:22 AM Excellent! I scored 2 of them a couple of months ago at my local Little Rock, Arkansas. They had about half a dozen and word spread quickly among our group of modelers. One of them popped up and he brought 2 as well. I've only opened one to peek and it is going to be a fantastic build. 1

My local store also had Revell '56 T-Birds and some military stuff. There was a Camaro concept and a big rig item. Always check!

Glassparman Posted Thursday at 11:40 AM Posted Thursday at 11:40 AM I grabbed two from the Ollie's in Del City Oklahoma. I like that they have both windshields and two sets of seats. Gonna build a salt flats racer with one of mine.
Zippi Posted Thursday at 12:03 PM Posted Thursday at 12:03 PM Nice score at Ollie's Jim. I've seen one simi truck in all my visits to my local Ollie's. I stopped going. 1
customline Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago (edited) The engine in this kit isn't the greatest. There's one option on mounting the air cleaners directly on the carbs, which are poorly represented, or on velocity stacks. The entire intake assembly consisting of twelve pieces, all plated, was, for me, a tedious operation and kept me busy scraping plating from all the mating surfaces. I chose Testor's liquid cement to allow a little adjustment while fumbling with parts that have no alignment features except on the ends of the blower. I thought seriously about using the engine from a '29 roadster kit but decided to build this one anyway. One reason for my attitude is the split oil pan, which is rendered as a high volume, racing style pan. I'm not sure how I should paint it. After sanding to try to make the seam disappear, I "skinned" over the pan bottom surfaces with scrap .010 or .015. Bonded the scraps with thin cement, let it set up a while, then trimmed and sanded the edges. I suppose you can just use a filler to smooth things out but my method is quick and done. The "False bottom" is in place and sanded on the front portion. This piece of scrap, I discovered, had white paint on it 💩. A nice clean scrap piece is shown bonded to the sump. I can't be the only one who does this. Ta-da ! 😊. The T-bucket headers are in the kit but not on the parts list, holdovers from a previous version. I like them, it's just the plumber in me. They must be assembled. That leaves a visible seam on the muffler that will need to be tended to. The kit also includes a set similar ( but not identical) to the ones from the '29 kit. Not sure which ones end up in service yet. 🤔 I will try to get it painted today. Thanks for looking in. 🤓 Edited 12 hours ago by customline 3
Paul Payne Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Have a few of these, no mention of what engine this is.

After years of "sand/fill/sand/prime" work on two piece oil pans, this is the method I've used to get rid of those horrid seams. Sometimes the shape of the pan makes the final shaping a bit tedious, but IME it's a lot quicker and more foolproof than using filler. 👍🏼GMTA and all that. 19 minutes ago, Paul Payne said: Have a few of these, no mention of what engine this is. It's an SBC, the same engine that was in the original Stacey David Rat Roaster kit.
espo Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Like the added material to the oil pan idea. I have always just puttied it and sanded but I'm going to try your way next time as I think it looks smoother.
1930fordpickup Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago If I remember right you may have a little trouble with the stock windshield on the cowl. Someone said that the cowl was smoothed over for the Duvall windshield. I have not built this yet So I am not 100% sure.

It looks okay to me, just not great. The distributor is unusually large, making 9 separate holes easily "drillable". You can get a few more of these if you hurry 🥴.

"Skinning" is an easy cure for many ills. GMTA? 🤔

I really wanted to cut that pan off, David, and replace it with one from the stash but skinning it is just a simple solution and makes use of my extensive scrap styrene collection. 🤓 2

They seem to be relatively rare in the real world and it gives a roadster a touch of class, IMHO. 2

bluestringer Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Looking good Jim. My Ollie's had a bunch of these. I got one and built it a few weeks ago. Nice kit. The chrome on the wheels was messed up, I stripped them and shot some metallic on them. And the moon tank is a little finicky. 1
customline Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago I decided on the exhaust. Drilling & pinning everything, big fat distributor cap (I thought maybe 1:20 scale?) has tempted me to do the firing order...well, it's a legit point-getter, right? 🤣 Guess what color the body is gonna be....🙃 1
