Finished my second 1971 Olds 442. Have to admit I am quite pleased with the results. I decided to do a 1:25 scale replica of a 1970 Olds 442 Hotweels that I've had since I was a kid. I needed to use big "fancy" rims as I call them; which I usually never do but for this build they were necissary to get the look of the hotwheels. The rims are from the '56 Del Ray. The wheelbacks surprisingly came with the Olds kit, and they fit the rims nicely, but to get the clearence under the wheel opening lip I had to shave a considerable amount off behind the actual rim so they set farther back in the chassis. The paint wasn't exactly what I wanted but it still looks very nice. Plan was to follow the same scheme I did on my banana seat bike, which wears a silver base coat and a transparent red that really pops. The hotwheels car has a similar paint job on it, so I wanted that for the model. But the paint didn't take to the car nicely so it had to be painted over with the red you see on the car now. The stripes were the main thing. They needed to be yellow but the kit only comes with white or black. My brain had a dumb idea that if I put yellow food colouring in the water I dip the white stripe decals into, that it would dye yellow. My brain wouldn't give up the idea until I could actually see in not working. Ended up painting over the white decals, they don't look half bad. I like this one better than the first one I built in 2023.

Looks real good and very close to the Hot Wheels car. I've actually painted over decals and then applied them as well, and they turned out pretty good just like yours did.

awesome job recreating your 1/25 scale version of your 1/64 scale hot wheels car
i do enjoy making 1/24 or 1/25 scale replicas of hot wheels cars though most of the time i tend to make replicas of hot wheels original design cars  which can be a challenge figuring out what s the best real car to use as the base then start to kitbash and modify parts and the body
most of the time i strive for close enough though when i made my 1/25 and 1/24 scale replics of different cars from hot wheels acceleracers movies i tended to try and get them very close to actual cg animated hot wheels original design cars from the 4 movies and a bit from the tcg card game card illustrations inside and out

Mate, you nailed it! I love the concept of what you’ve done. Painting the stripes to match the HW car would have been difficult, but it looks great. Top stuff. 👍🏻
