Wagonmaster110 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I am wondering if there has been any discussion on the 2026 Cannonball run CB? Tim 1
oldcarfan Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Not that I've heard, but I have been thinking about it a little. Maybe someone can refresh our memories on what the past themes were? Last year was Resto-Mods, 2023 was Run What You Brung, 2022 was birth year, and that's about where my memory drops off!
Mattilacken Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Good that you started this thread! I won’t be able to host next year due to a new work situation. So it would be good if some one would be up for doing the hosting as well. Not that much that needs to be done but still some. Regarding themes, there have been a great deal of ideas in the past threads for previous years as mentioned. But new ideas are always welcome! btw 2021 was Race cars in disguise.
tim08 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Wagons maybe? If it's been done it was probably a while back.
stitchdup Posted November 16 Posted November 16 hows about going off paved roads? or the carrera panamerica route from anchorage to ushuala. a mix of surfaces and a section with no road whatsoever in the darien gap. its been done in a caddy hearse before. or there lots of songs about cars that could be a theme
Mattilacken Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Great ideas. How a bout cars from the White screen? Movie cars, no limits. 1
White Rabbit Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Hello all! A few ideas: Cannonball Run, 1980s edition. The last official Run took place in 1979; but what would it have looked like if continued into the '80s? Run-What-You Brung Part 2. As Yates so famously, (or infamously), stated: "The only rule: there are no rules." "Work" Vehicles. Entries disguised as work vehicles but prepared for the Run.
oldcarfan Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Some good ideas so far! Run What You Brung, or off road, or work vehicles any of those would be cool. Movie cars would be fun too, but I'm not good at doing replicas mine always end up looking like they were "Based On A True Story" rather than actually being a replica. This might be too complicated, but how about a 'Low-Budget Build" thing? Sort of like LeMons. I don't think that's been done has it? Set a price limit, say $2025 for the basic vehicle. It could be any vehicle as long as you could find one under that price. You'd pick an example of your chosen vehicle on Marketplace or Ebay or the local newspaper, and do a screen shot of a super cheap 1:1 example as proof. This is what I was thinking, but any vehicle would work. Maybe allow engine transplants, body work, even body swaps onto a different chassis, brakes and safety and whatever else as long as a good low budget shop could theoretically do it on their own from used parts.
tim08 Posted November 17 Posted November 17 After I posted the wagon idea I got to thinking. Back in the early to mid 2000s when bmc(brians model cars) was still going, heck, I didn't know what group builds were, but if I remember, they were just finishing up a tri 5 chevy build. Right about the same time that was finishing up I think I think the next theme was, Drag it to the Track, or something like that. Think they ment with trailer or chains. Just a thought.

MeatMan Posted Tuesday at 12:12 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:12 AM Well, the theme is to mimic the Cannonball Run route, so the track idea, and the off road idea would mean moving away from that. Perhaps its time for that, I dunno.
oldcarfan Posted Tuesday at 01:10 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:10 AM Has there ever been an 'Unlimited' Cannonball? The idea would be a vehicle you would build and race if you won the lottery and money was no object.
tim08 Posted Wednesday at 12:43 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:43 AM Unlimited idea sounds good, can't remember the last time I built a super car, maybe a testors pantera my grandma got me for x-mas in the 70s. Would be fun.
Lunajammer Posted Wednesday at 05:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:32 PM As a point of reference, the Cannonball Run CBP began on the obsolete SAE forum around 2008 by Jantrix (Rob Mattis). Since it came to this forum, these have been the themes... 2012: Where Were You in '62? (Anything 1962 or earlier) 2013: Unlimited 2014: The Last Cannonball 1979 (Anything 1979 or earlier) 2015: Sleeperball 2016: Aussieball (Offroad) - {5 finishers} 2017: Unlimited 2018: In-Line Engines 2019: Vannonball (Vans duh) 2020: Movie, TV, Film 2021: Cannonball Ruse (Racer In Disguise) 2022: Year of Your Birth 2023: Run What You Brung 2024: Resto Mod 2025: 50 Years Since First Run 2
Pat Minarick Posted Thursday at 02:48 AM Posted Thursday at 02:48 AM The LeMon's idea or Unlimited sound good to me.
Wagonmaster110 Posted Thursday at 03:49 AM Author Posted Thursday at 03:49 AM I would go for either wagons. Or maybe 4 doors or long roofs 1
Beans Posted Friday at 02:17 PM Posted Friday at 02:17 PM Don't remember if it was last year or the year before but there was a lot of interest in a RADwood type of theme. Don't know much about it other than it is an 80's and 90's car culture type event. https://www.radwood.com/ 1
Beans Posted Friday at 02:24 PM Posted Friday at 02:24 PM Some of the other's that have been floated around in the past have been: Service vehicles Hot wheels Cars from movies/TV Cars from songs 1
stitchdup Posted Friday at 02:43 PM Posted Friday at 02:43 PM anybody remember the monster garage show? it could be a fun theme
Beans Posted Friday at 05:01 PM Posted Friday at 05:01 PM I just came up with another one.... Land Yachts.... any car that meets a minimum overall length. Say about 220 inches or so (from the factory) 1
