Ron Hamilton Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 You remember this one. A little putty, paint, parts, elbow grease, and some luck, I ended up with this. Well here is the finished product. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I hope you enjoy it.
Fisher61 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Great looking restoration Ron! I love those big GM cars from 1960. That before picture looks like one of those paint jobs I would have been proud of when I was 8 years old!
John E. Bowers Jr. Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Ron, that is a simply beautiful restoration and transformation! I am actively seeking this kit to do a build of one of the cars used in the USA Network series "Burn Notice". Any idea who might have one? Fantastic job, man! J.B.
MrObsessive Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Absolutely Beautiful Save Ron!! No one would ever believe that started out so pitiful looking! It's great you brought that one back to being a real showpiece!
roadhawg Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Wow! An absolutley beautiful rebuild of a georgous car! My hat is off to you, sir!
Guest Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Well, I never!!! How dare you post pics of a real car, and call it your build!!!! Wow! That is incredible work!
camaroman Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Nice work.... Why can't they repop these old kits????
Lyle Willits Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Nice work.... Why can't they repop these old kits???? If RC2 (AMT) still had the tools for these old kits, you can bet they would have been reissued several times by now. Many of the old tools are gone. RON - fantastic job giving that old model a new life. When I saw it at the MAMA meeting, I didn't remember what you had started with.
kyledr330 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Outstanding save! Looks like it rolled off the showroom floor.
cruz Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Saw it at the MAMA meeting and I can say it was gorgeous, nice save!!!!
Peter Lombardo Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 The only word I can think of is AMAZING! What a great save. Impressive work...I will never look at the garage sale junker the same way any more. You must be proud of this one considering where it came from and where you took it.
John Goschke Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Beautiful job, Ron! I really like the detail painting on the spinner centers and all the emblems; just perfect.
Ron Hamilton Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Ron, that is a simply beautiful restoration and transformation! I am actively seeking this kit to do a build of one of the cars used in the USA Network series "Burn Notice". Any idea who might have one? Fantastic job, man! J.B. R & R did a resin repop of the car years ago. I have one somewhere in my basement. This one, while heavilly painted, was not too bad to work with, once the paint came off.
MrObsessive Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 R&R still offers that '60 convertible............ Click on the picture and it'll take you to Star Model's page with info how to get in touch with Steve Kohler.
beefheart22 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Wow! Beautiful salvage. That paint job looks like glass.
1955chevy Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Ron That is amazing! You know I like Buicks too. Is there an other Buick on the horizon?
carrucha Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Excellent job on the restoration. carrucha
Zoom Zoom Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Wow, nice save, gorgeous result Where did the wheels come from?
JayC Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 It's hard to say what hasn't been said already but spectacular save! It looks stunning. That black paint job is so smooth.
oldscool Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 WOW! that is a great save Ron. Those wheels are perfect for it. Are they the old Monogram XKE wheels? oldscool
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Ron Your "RESTO" job came out beautiful . I learned something from yours - I'm not done - THOUGHT I WAS. I didn't know there was chrome on the hood "V", so I need to get the BMF back out and finish it. It looked pretty plain, so that'll help. Again, very nice, and really Rich looking in the "SILKY SMOOTH BLACK" .
RodBurNeR Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 man that came out beautiful! excellent save Ron!
Jeff Sauber Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Beautiful work, Ron. Talk about a diamond in the rough..... From a complete mess to a sparkling gem...The wheels really give it some pop. Very nice!!
