Randy Kern Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 The Tamiya kit, which I did as sort of a resto-mod. Body paint is Dupli-Color Alpine Green Pearl (including the floorboards and fender beading), and the interior is Rustoleum Interior Accents Soft Wheat, with copper embossing powder for carpet. Wheels are from the Revell '50 Ford pickup. A parts box steering wheel, skull shift knob, and aluminum exhaust tips were added, with some engine wiring. I looked through my decal stash and found an old 'Scat Performance VW' decal for the rear window. Oh yeah, you gotta name these little devils, so I used one of my wife's names for our Pug, 'Bumbles' Thanks for looking!
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Thats a nifty litle bug there... Very nice work. The color suits that car very well.
RatRod Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 What's not to like about a super clean Cal look bug!!! Another excellent build Randy!!!
Foxer Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I like the build and look. but whats with those wheels? The spokes look like they are turning in all the photos..has to be just the reflection off the paint/coating, but kind of cool. :0
58 Impala Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Great build, that is the nicest bug build I've seen. You hit the Cal look right on the spot, the wheels and tires from the 50 Ford work perfectly.
GeeBee Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 That's one very cool looking bug, colour really suits it,
chris coller Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Do I see wires in the engine compartment? Nice job on the bug.
peter31a Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Bumbles is one sharp lookin' bug. Great work!
MrObsessive Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Sharp bug you've got Randy!! The color is really nice! I see you even got the negative camber in the rear wheels they were notorious for too!
RS Sport Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) Looks great outside! Edited January 11, 2010 by RS Sport
Tony T Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Nice looking build! The wheels really do look great on it! Just another reminder that I have to get me a Tamiya Beetle kit, and a Ghia!
Sixties Sam Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Another beauty from Kern's Kars! Very well done. I like your understated style, never overdone! Great model! Sam
cruz Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 WOW Randy, you hit me where it hurts, I love VWs man, this one is just sharp, rims, tires paint and everything else, can't wait to see it in person!!!!
E St. Kruiser50 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Randy What a great job . It looks really "Slick" with the bumpers left off. Kinda low down and sneaky lookin . Love the color and stance too. Everything came out BBBUUUTIIIFUUL .
