Tom Kren Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 We started it last year and kinda forgot about it so there was a LHS having a model show by us and asked if she wanted to finish it and enter and she said yes so we went to work I let her go wild on the air brush all I did was hold the model for her and guided her through it. From there she built the rest by herself had to help with the wheels caus they were a bit hard for her. Before we knew it we were finished she had fun building it and ran it to the contest here it is more of the build... http://public.fotki.com/Tomk/my_model_cars/samanthas-models/#media
charlie8575 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Very nice work indeed. How old is she, Tom? If she keeps it up, a lot of the boys will have some very serious competition. Charlie Larkin
Raul_Perez Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 GREAT WORK, Samantha!! You should be very proud!! Thanks for sharing,
Foxer Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Now, that's a great looking car, Samantha! How great is that Tom to see your daughter with some of your car blood! Between my son and daughter, it's my daughter by far with car blood in her. Both are in their 30's now, but neither had any car modeling interest. My son has recently build some small dioramas for his war game figures, so there some hope. My daughter would probably build a 1:1 car if she had the funds. She has never owned an automatic (learned to drive in my Porsche) and does all her own car maintenance. She even did a stint selling cars.. and outsold most of the old macho-males.
RodneyBad Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Great looking 34 Pink and Flames look good. Great work..
David G. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Great job, Samantha! I think the world needs more pink and purple hotrods. You should try to talk Dad into helping you build a real hotrod, If you start now, you could be the girl with the coolest car in high school!
Junkman Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Samantha, you are not only an excellent modeller, but also a model and a scholar. I've shown the photos of your build to my daugher, and she asked me whether I could provide her with a model to build. You should be very proud of yourself. And hey, thank you so much for sharing it with us!
crazyjim Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Most excellent. Samantha, you need to ask Dad for your own dedicated work area.
sjordan2 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 (edited) A beautiful girl with a beautiful model. I wish we could get more women into this hobby. Not to stereotype, but I find their crafts skills to be amazing. Edited May 2, 2010 by sjordan2
Tom Kren Posted May 2, 2010 Author Posted May 2, 2010 She says thanks you and also she took first at the contest today!
Raykreations Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Tom, It's great that you have the patience to show your daughter the ins and outs of modeling. You deserve as much credit as she does. God bless you both!
Railfreak78 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Go girl power! Awesome job Samantha and keep it up!
mikemodeler Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 nice to see her hard work pay off! That is a very good looking model and I happen to like those Revell snappers! I took my 12 year old daughter to a hobby shop a week ago for a 90 minute "How to build better models" seminar and she enjoyed herself. Of course she wanted me to buy a few kits and we did. Now that some of the craziness of the last few weeks is over I think she and I will be in the garage spray painting and then building them! My 16 year old son has never showed as much interest in cars as he did planes but at least we could build something together. Now he is all involved in school and his ROTC unit so his kits are boxed up. His buddies stop by and ask if HE is building the models and when he tells them it is ME, they think it is kinda cool! I usually find a gearhead amongst the group and they start drooling over the stash in the garage( if they only knew about the other 200 kits boxed up!). Keep her building, it makes for some great father/daughter time and before you know it boys will take your place!

speedy5963 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Going on 10 Great to see young builders getting involved in the hobby. I am now 31 and grew up around classic cars and my father got me into building models at 12. My daughter is now 11 and building. I've tried getting her into it for a couple of years without pushing her into it but it seems like the desire is now there. Good luck and keep bulding!
ricky12 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 tell her congrats on the win and the great looking build
David G. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Congratulations on the contest win, Samantha! Do you have any ideas of what you might like to build next?
dimaxion Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Nice build . Keep them coning Samatha . I wish my Grandchildren would have the ambition to finish their started projects . I would post them if they did so . My two girls have no interest . Thanx .. Edited May 4, 2010 by dimaxion
bluemoose Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Samantha, that is a beautiful job! I sure hope to see more from you. You've got amazing artistic flair!
Guest Johnny Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Great job Samantha! My sons couldn't hold a candle to your building skills! One (youngest twin) just took up building again and he still isn't half as good as you, and he's 29 years old!!! Keep up the great work and congratulations on your win!
