Sorry everyone, my styrene itch hasn't been scratched for many weeks now, been working on my 1:1 Jeep lately with any free time I get.

Thanks for the continued interest, it'll make it back to the bench eventually ;)

I sure am glad Casey resurrected this post. Otherwise I never would have seen it. That roof looks amazing on that body. Simply OUTSTANDING!!!!! I hope your itch comes back soon. I would love to see how this turns out.

thanks-garry

OK, I can't resist tinkering with this thing...

Drew some rough lines on it to see what looks best. I think I may do "pocket doors" as shown. Yes? Does it fight the other body lines? Keep in mind the recessed lines there now are how Mr. Lombardo carved the buck originally, as a four-door. I just don't want to make any cuts or fill any lines until its right. I'd like to have panel lines on it just as a 1:1 in steel or aluminum would...could NEVER pull of that expanse of real estate without some separate panels!

Yet another set of wheels. These kinda look classy, but "large diameter modern" I think...

Tried some '37 Ford headlights on it for fun. Do they work, or should I try some other things? With a grille of some sort, that will change the look completely up front. I think vertical is the way to go here.

Jeff this car is looking awesome. I just LOVE Art-Deco styled cars... (My favorite is the Delahaye)...

Maybe you could try the custom headlight fairings that come in the Revell/Mono. 36 Ford that came out last year... the ones that sit down on the fenders... I'm also thinking maybe a grille like the one in the Fiat double dragster kit.... more angled back than actually vertical... Would maybe fit the swoopy look better...??? I love the wire wheels too... Keep this going man... I love it.

Wait...what? Okay, I need some backstory here. I missed how this came about. lol. Are there any more of these bodies?

Just out of curiosity, what does it look like if you flip the headlights upside down?

Here's Peter Lombardo's creation thread:

I did try them upside-down originally to better flow with the nose's shape (can't remember how they looked  ), but I'll flip them again & repost.

Thanks Rich!

Yeah, I'm going to play around more with different parts. It looks a bit "pig-nosed" to me, so I think you're right about laying back the hood/grill area. Maybe I'll back-fill the shell up front & reshape...

Thanks for the link. This has my mind working on possibilities, but in all honesty I don't see how I can add another project to my list now. It's long enough to carry me into 2020 as it is. :D

Here it is with the '37 teardrop headlights upside-down...better or worse???

I don't think I either option, Jeff. Maybe some other buckets?

Even though the '37 headlights are Art Deco inspired they don't seem to flow very well with this body's lines. How about scribing in some sort of retractable headlights? Could be as simple as just scribing the panel to simulate a retractable light or even a clear headlamp molded into the fender line. Just my two cents!

I agree Jim & Skip...these just aren't working for me either.

Thanks Bryan, hope it doesn't stall out because of design direction :( (or lack thereof)

Thank you Mike for the pic...very cool, but I'm not sure yet

Here's what it looks like with '40 Ford headlights:

As surprised as I am to say this, the '40 headlights look the best. But I would still the sand away the top indicator lights for a smoother look and then re-chrome.

Something about those lights just do not look right to me. To far inward ? Makes the front end look droopy or sad ( can a car look sad ? ) I think the idea to follow the Cord look may be a good one.

I agree on the '40 headlights, they look best, but I still don't like 'em :(

A body this special deserves taking the time to get the look right. I am in the process of back filling the forward part of the body shell with resin...then I'll reshape it. The funky shaped nose/grille area is holding back the design I think. I really don't like the hidden headlights on a car like the Cord and I'm trying to stay away from that look. I like exposed headlights on a car like this...

Don't know how I've missed this. You trying to slip one one by Jeff?? Just my two cents, but I would mount the '37 headlights outward onto the fenders themselves and see what that looks like. That would make the front end look wider and give you much more room for making a grille. If you're set on having them where they are now, I would recommend something along the lines of '39 Chevy headlights with the pod molded into the fenders. Or....you could do a combination of pods mounted higher with the '37 headlights. I think the reason the headlights don't look to suit you is because they look too low. I think if they were raised 5-6 scale inches, they would look much better. Keep at it! You'll get it!

I agree with Roger's idea of moving the headlights out to the fenders. Additionally, I'd like to suggest glass covered, recessed headlights similar to the early VW Beetles. With these, you could also put a turn indicator lamp inside the headlight enclosure.

Either way, it'll be difficult to select the "right" headlights without seeing them in conjunction with a grille.

Fabulous build!
