JustBill Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Thought I should introduce myself by posting some pics on what I been working on. Pics of my 62 Pontiac Cat. Its getting there, still have to clear coat and polish body. Then detail. Interior is pretty much done. Chassis and suspension is primed, still have to paint and assemble. Gona wire and plum the engine and such. More pics to follow. Edited December 1, 2010 by JustBill
ian ashton Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Great start! Are those fuel lines from the kit, or did you make them? That interior detail looks awesome too!
JustBill Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Great start! Are those fuel lines from the kit, or did you make them? That interior detail looks awesome too! Everything you see so far is out of box, other than the flocking on the floor.
randx0 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 great job so far . welcome aboard I look forward to seeing this finished.
David G. Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Excellent detail work on the interior. I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of it. And... Congratulations! You've found the best model car community on the web! Welcome aboard. Regards, David G.
crazyjim Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Welcome to the forum, Bill. Really good stuff going here all the time. Your Catalina is looking good.
Matt P Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 The detail in the interior is real good. Nice start to the body.
Brutalform Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Welcome! Nice Catalina. That interior is beautiful. Is that Tamiya TS-18 Metallic Red on the body? That's the color I painted mine, and it looks real close in color. Can't wait to see it finished.
Foxer Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Welcome in. The interior looks fantastic with that shading!
JustBill Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Hey everybody, thanks for the welcome and the complements!! Been hunting on here a ton lately and loving being apart of the forum now. Just endless knowledge and talent. Brutalform; to answer your question, the paint is Model Master Honduras Maroon from the custom lacquer system. Thanks again, started on plug wires and throttle linkage tonight. Will post pics soon.
JustBill Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 Very small update. Wires and linkage are done. Will tie linkage into car when installed. Also applied a little black wash to tone it down some. Looked to clean or fake to me. Sorry the pics are so dark. Will take some better ones once the engine is complete and before it gets installed.
cposada Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 That engine and interior look awesome. Did the kit come with the pillowed interior seats? If not, how did you do that? That engine looks ready for a dyno test. LOL! Just beautiful. cposada...
montelsc Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Great start! Are those fuel lines from the kit, or did you make them? That interior detail looks awesome too! looks like its coming out really nice i did mine a long time ago its gold and black int
JustBill Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Thanks again for the complements. The interior did come with the kit. Its a great kit and I'm having a blast building it. I recommend it to anyone. Also comes with extras to build two versions. Thanks again.
JustBill Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Latest update. Got the frame and suspension painted and put together. Set the ride height. Made rear springs for it from wire. Don't remember where these wheels came from but the didn't have centers in them. Made centers for them from tree spur in a cone shape. Still have to figure out what I'm doing with the exhaust. Got the body cleared and polished. Still have to add BMF. Trying to get this done for next Saturday for the model club meet. Thanks for looking. I know there's still some orange peel in the paint. I polished it out the best I could without going through the clear. I'm still learning and already know what I did wrong during the paint process. This is the second time I've painted this car so I'm not going to strip it and redo it. I'll just finish it off like this and look back at it as one of those learning experiences.
parki Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Welcome on board, this place is great!! looking good so far
DRG Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Welcome aboard, I'm sure you will enjoy this forum. The knowledge and help that is available is fantastic. great job on the Catalina.
JustBill Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Well... went to Bare Metal Foil and turned into Bear metal Foiled! Come to find out I didn't have actual BMF, I had Krome Foil by Detail Master. After hours of messing with this thing I got so mad I walked away from it for a week. Then went to my LHS and purchased BMF!!!! If your reading this make a note... Nothing beats BMF!!!!! Stay away from anything else!!!!! As you can see in the pics the krome foil lifted and didn't go dome smooth at all. So I striped it and put on the Ritz!! Ahhhhhh! Much better. These are the last work bench pics before final assembly and moving to under glass. Thanks for looking! Edited December 30, 2010 by JustBill
Krazy Rick Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Your attention to detail is terrific & the dry brushing on the interior really makes it !!!
Curtis v. Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 i really like that. the only thing i would have changed is the wheels, just not a fan but the work you did looks awsome!
Dragline Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Looking good there Bill. Now I get to see some of your work. I'm impressed buddy. Keep it up. Bob
