Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Last night I watched on the History channel all the upgrades they made to this car, but what blew me away was the color. It was the most gorgeous light blue I've seen on any car. Does someone know what color that is, or even better where to find the color number or formula? Thanks in advance.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 You can see the color I am talking about here, although the one featured on the History Channel was not a racing car: http://www.astonmartin.com/eng/gallery/videogallery
crispy Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I wanted to say gulf blue, but that would be to light. Looks like a few shades darker. I'm having a hard time finding it. I'll keep looking. Chris
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 It got my attention because I have never seen such a blue in a car, and then the border of the front grill was painted in a white or buffed metallic of some sort. It's a cool, cool car at 187,000 bucks!
MikeMc Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) Five blue colors are offered: Slate, Midnight, Elusive, Celeste and Blue Sapphire. Slate is very dark, almost gray, and Midnight is also dark, but with fewer gray tones. Elusive is a light blue, with hues of green or teal added. Celeste is the lightest blue offered, and Blue Sapphire is slightly darker than Celeste. Edited December 2, 2010 by Stasch
Brendan Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 If it is the factory color, it is Mako Blue. It's very close to the Gulf Blue. As far as trying to get it, it's a brand new color and it may not be available yet. But I would try Jameston at Scale Finishes. He might be able to get a good match for you. Aston Martin is usually very tight lipped about their color codes.
slantasaurus Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 When you buy a car like that it's "any color you like".
geckoman1220 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 it looks alittle like laser blue offered on the newer mini coopers it is very nice!
ra7c7er Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Your best bet might be to go to a Aston martin dealership and ask. As has been said Aston doesn't readily give out their color codes but if you go to a dealership and politely ask and tell them your painting models they might help you out. Granted their version of help might be ordering a $500 dollar a pint can of paint.
Zoom Zoom Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 If you can't get the color code from Aston, it looks like it's a solid color and Tamiya TS-23 light blue lacquer is probably a very close match. If you decant it, you might lighten it a bit with some white.
sjordan2 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Looks like a classic Bugatti blue, of which there have been several shades.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 You guys have been very helpful. I've always liked to tinker with the colors, so I might try that Tamiya option. I just fell in love with that Aston Martin color. I am sure this happens to all of you too!
simonr Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) Among all this cars in this Aston site, which is the one you meant? If its a light blue I saw there,I guess the Foundation Blue, made by Finisher's as an undercoat for colors like chrome will suit. Simón P. SoCalCarCulture Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 This one was at the LA Auto Show last month...
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Dave, the colors is a bit brighter and darker than that! You can't confuse it for any other blue.
Zoom Zoom Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Before more people post ice blue metallic Aston Martins, here's a link to show what the car in question looks like: The Aston Martin On Top Gear Or this:
simonr Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) Well..Although he never answered my question, this is the car I think he meant on the video in the Nurburing link he posted. Simón P. Dr. Cranky Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 Yes, yes, that's it. That's the blue I am talking about . . . I love those pictures of the vehicles out on the flats. Perfect. Thank you.
sjordan2 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Here's a spoon test from another forum seeking to replicate Petty blue, but also seems similar to my search for a certain Bugatti blue and possibly the Aston. From left to right, Tamiya TS-23; Tamiya TS-10 and Testors 1208. Not shown as a potential choice: Model Master big bad blue. By the way, the site where I found this has a nice thread with lots of spoon tests: http://www.randyayersmodeling.com/modelingforum/viewtopic.php?p=475905&sid=67ceb614ecd0c853fce94608db180319
Dr. Cranky Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 Thanks, Skip, those look pretty interesting choices.
Matt Bacon Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Looks to me very close to classic French racing blue: This is Zero Paints ZP-1095 French Blue: http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=48_77&products_id=2510 bestest, M.
