Fall Ploughing

I think this diorama is just about complete

It is depicting a typical fall day on some farm. We're plowing down corn stubble to get ready for next years crop. It usually doesn't take long for the gulls to find out that there are free meals to be had in the worms and grubs that come to the surface.

Its too cold here to take outdoor pictures. I hope you enjoy these ones though.

The base is expanded Styrofoam on plywood. The Plow is an an old Ertl kit and the tractor is a repopped AMT/Ertl kit. The corn stubble is straw from and old broom and the seagulls are mostly scratch built from epoxy putty. The diorama is 1/25th scale.

Thanks

Wow! Carl, that is a great diorama! The corn stubble looks real! Nice weathering on the tractor. Real ones don't stay shiny and clean for long! The gulls are a nice touch. Well done!

That is beautiful, looks like something my uncle was doing around november on his farm, in Warkworth, not sure if you've been out towards Belleville, I've been east ward to Barrie and Kitchener a few times.

Looks like the fields next door to me in late October (except that farmer is IH/Case). Great job! I like the gulls; they're very realistic.

Aaaaahhhhh... corn.

I thought, "Why would he disk a field without pulling out the bean poles?" B) But corn, that makes sense.

Excellent diorama. Great looking tractor, nice detail and weathering.

Unusual subject, great job!

:D

Note that I resisted the 'outstanding in its field' joke that was sooo obvious! B);)

Wow, that's cool! This is absolutely something different, but really nicely done. That tractor looks very good, and so does that plow too. This is really typical here in Finland, someone is plowing his field and then there are lots of those birds flying behind the blow and trying to find something to eat. Great job with this, came out really nice.

Thanks Guys for all the kind words.

It would be nice if the old Ertl agricultural series was brought back. In their day they were some of the best plastic 1/25th scale kits available. The tractor kits realy do make great diorama projects. They are still automotive but far from main stream.

Thanks

Hopefully with all the old kits Round2/AMT is currently reissueing again, maybe it won't be long until we see these again. The last I remember them being reissued was in the late 90s or early 2000s, and some of the reissues then have just came around recently.

I never knew any of them were reissued, ever.

I'd love to see them make a comeback- I need that IH to go with my IH trucks, and I've got to have a Massey Ferguson 1155. I have a real one out in the barn no more than 60 feet away- how's that for good reference material? ;)

Chuck, The John Deere tractor and back hoe were the only ones that were reissued. They were only available through John Deere dealers briefly in the mid 90's. I'm afraid that the 1066's and 1155's have never been repopped, nor has any of the wagons or plows. I would like to find a Massey plow kit then I would have the full set of plowing dioramas. This is the one I did with the IH 1066
