I like the idea of the contest. It's what this hobby needs, a way to get new builders.

Do i like all the rules? NO, But i also don't like all the rules at shows I go to in person. I still go.

Will i enter? not sure, if i get some of the projects off my bench and on the shelf in time i might just try it.

Maybe if it goes good this year then next year maybe they will add a category that allows different cars and after market parts.

As far as the list, if you look at it. It has all the cars that started hot rod era. They are all cars the where cheap and there was alot of parts available new and used that the working man could afford.

I didn't grow up in the hot rod hay days, but my dad was a hot rod nut like me and I've couldn't tell you how many 55,56,57 chevys he or his friends bought for 50 to 200 bucks back in the day. I'm sure there where ford for the same price but where a chevy family.

Most of the mopars couldn't be found that cheap, plus you couldn't get a 350 or 454 to fit in it with out a lot more work.

I think anyone who cares about this hobby should build a model and enter it regardless of the rules. When you really think about it,for the first time in a long time,we have a chance to show Revell and the rest of the world that we are still out there and we still build models! Heck,I know from the get-go that I don't have a chance of winning this thing, but I'm still going to build something and enter it. No,they don't have my favorite type of builds listed, but I can still find something in there. The attitude of "they don't have my favorite brand listed" or " I can't win,so I'm not going to enter" or "I don't like the rules,so I'm not going to play" is no excuse. This is an opportunity that no one should miss. If we don't support them,we can't cry when they don't support us. So,come on guys, build something and enter it!

Put the hemi in the 5 window deuce coupe.

I was just busting chops with the Mopar reference.....

I've been reading the replies and I agree 100%. Even with the contest entries restricted to Street Rods it's good for the hobby. And if there is a second go-around, it'll be something else. Good idea. Trying to judge apples against oranges never ends well.

And as for stuffing a Hemi in the Deuce, does a 413" cross rammed big block count? :D

Just be careful putting those mopars in if you are going to enter the contest. One of the rules is 50% of the build must be kit parts. I am still waiting for clarification from Revell on exactly what that means, but the engine takes up a lot of a kits total parts.

Whoa! That is all sorts of bad###!!!

Thanks! This is an older build as I'm STILL trying to get a work area set up in the new house.

For all of you who might be interested I asked Revell for a claification of the rues.

Here is the reply I got.

In the box stock class, can not modify the parts. Only things allowed are paint, chrome foil and flocking. Also body filler for seams.

On the unlimited, you can modify any of the parts.

I'm not planning on entering, mainly cause the subject matter doesn't exactly yank my chain, plus I don't feel like going out and buying something NEW specifically for this contest, when I already have several of the older releases in my stash as it is (those old factory stock kits don't have the hot rodding parts)...irregardless my main reason for adding to this thread...is that my LHS has an entire end-cap display dedicated to this thing. If this sales display is used across the country I can see where Revell will get an up-tick in sales of those specific kits, whether people enter them into the contest or not. In my store this end-cap is the FIRST thing you see when you walk into the store, an it almost sucked me into buying the '48 Ford Woody cause there it was front and center demanding my impulse buying dollars. ;)

I bought my car today, 57 nomad. This contest is to get more people interested so they can bring the market back up. Im not entering to win, im entering because it was an excuse to buy another car and for the joy of building. Plus it supports your LHS even if you buy there allready. And I can enter this car into a local show as well as my JWAC build.

Alyn you're not that far from me. I'm in SW Iowa, about an hour away from Omaha. In fact the two contests/NNL, (looks like for this year the NNL is being changed back to a standard contest), I attend each year are in Omaha, with the former NNL being held in a couple of weeks, on February 27th. I also attend the Mid-America Nationals in Omaha in October, & plan to hit the IPMS Nationals there this year.

Are there links to the shows in Omaha? my wife is orginally from NE and that will give us both an excuse to go(if she will go for that)

The only thing that bothers me is you have to buy the kit in that time line that they give you. Why? If you have the kit or kits they have on the list why can't you enter that as your build. Is it to boost sales for Revell and Monogram? I have already bought at least 4 of the kits on the list as soon as they hit the market and don't really want to run out and buy another just so I have the receipt in that time line.

I will say on a positive note, regardless of such a short list in comparison to what is availible I am happy to see they are trying to get this underway.

That's my say...whether it counts or not...lol

At any cost I wish anyone who does enter luck and happy modeling.

My entry for the contest was just squashed by my cat. So I am out. I don't think I can build another in the amount of time left.

The TV program is Gearz TV.

I believe one of the stated goals of the contest is to provide recognition of the level of build quality in the hobby today. This is to attact new partisipants into the hobby; older guys that use to build but don't realize how the hobby has progressed, and younger guys that just aren't aware of the hobby beyond die-cast collectables. Since these groups are not currently building models, they are not likely to be lingering around model building web sites. But, they may be watching Gearz.. Stacey David is a likeable, knowledgeable and entertaining guy.

I'm entering.

Stacey David will love my entry and decide to build a full size version. The build will be broadcast on the show, spanning several episodes. He will then give it away in a drawing which I will win. Bingo! I will be driving a 1:1 version of my own model car this time next year. Chip Foose will see the car being built and forward me an offer to design and build hot rods for him. Revell will see my Chip Foose designs and offer me a contract allowing them to recreate the cars in 1:25 scale.

Ye haaaaaaa !

Hey, you stole my idea Alyn, now we've gotta fight! laugh.gif

I see this as a great way to get new builders into the hobby, nothing more. I'm entering, who cares if it's poorly organized or judged, it's a starting point, right? If this one is deemed a success, there will be more to follow, with better organization, more broad subject matter, and better judging. Bashing it before it's even happened will insure that Revell will be leery of doing a second one. If you don't want to enter, then don't, but don't drive Revell away with all the negativity. Take it for what it is, hopefully the first of many contests on a national level, that everyone can enter without driving 12 hours. Let's enjoy it, and hope for a better one next year and the years to follow!

I thought that too, but after reading the rules it does say you're supposed to go buy one during the time period, but I don't see anywhere where you have to provide a receipt. The online entry form just asks you what kit it is, and then the name and address of your "Favorite Revell Retailer".
