Nitro Neil Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) I built this using the 1932 Ford Hearse resin body from Race Motor Replicas. Chassis, fenders and interior are converted parts from the Revell 32 Ford. Engine is an old Revell Parts Pack Cadillac. Replicas and Miniatures Co. of Maryland supplied the Cadillac aircleaner, skull shifter knob, and inner door handles. I made the surfboards from basswood and mahogany. They are based on real longboards made by Greg Noll. I made a few other items to go into the back - a folding beach chair, a sleeping bag and a fruit crate to hold some other small items. I used the Goleta Lemons label on the crate to commemorate the first official drag race that was held in Goleta, California in April of 1949. The best part is my wife liked it well enough that she had me display in on a shelf in the living room, where the grown-ups will see it. I feel like a big boy. Thanks for looking. Dragline Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Cooler than the other side of the pillow. Old surfers never die....They catch the last set. Bob
Jon Cole Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Great job Neil! Glad to see you are building!
Foxer Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 This is gorgeous!! That black paint shines like a surfside stone! The surfboards ... and all those accessories are fantastic! My bet is these are what earned the good wife rating.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Cool doesn't begin to cover this one's beauty and attraction. Excellent work on the details. Those boards are fabulous touches too. Congrats.
oldscool Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Now that's a Deuce of a hearse, or is that hearse of a Deuce? Beautiful! grumpy gus
Sixties Sam Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Really cool hearse! The boards are well done, and really make the model! That chair is a nice touch, too. Sam
Greg Pugh Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Now there's something you don't see everyday. Very sharp!!
Ryan S. Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 This is just sweet. I love everything about it but those surf boards are fantastic. Excellent work. I'd take up surfing just to cruise this thing to the beach.
Nitro Neil Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 Thanks everyone, I had fun building it. I always wanted to build some sort of surf wagon, but I wanted it to be different. The hearse body fit the bill perfectly.
Avgwarhawk Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 The black paint is as good as it gets. Nice work!
Raul_Perez Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 The entire build looks awesome!! The handmade boards are too cool!! Thanks for sharing,
evilone Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 im a bigtime hearse fan and this one is clean and bitchin. Good work bro. but i got a seriouse question................................................can i have it lol
lordairgtar Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I lived in Santa Barbara and can relate to the Goleta label. Those racks are just like the real ones I remmember my grandfather put on his 1960 Buick leSabre when we went camping. Are they scratch made? After market? Your model is very very cool.
LAone Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 what i wanted to say has been said way too many times.
Nitro Neil Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) can i have it lol I finally built a model that my wife wants to show off in the living room - I ain't givin' it up that easy. I scratched the racks from pictures of racks I found on the 'net. Edited February 18, 2011 by Nitro Neil
