Mooneyzs Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, we'll have to hang out some and have you give me some pointers on the detail bud! Paul I can't believe that we are just a month away from Thanksgiving. Hoping I can get alot done between now and then.
buildnething Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Thanks for showing how to do those tie rods and ends. I was wondering how that was done.
buildnething Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Wow I am way behind on this. I love building drag cars. The detail is endless. I aspire to this type of building but for now since Im new, Im concentrating on the fundamentals. Thanks for sharing.
Mooneyzs Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Derrick.... you are welcome on showing you some of my technique's, My biggest piece of advice for you is have patience and take your time, I think you are on the right path with concentrating on the fundamentals. Feel free to ask any questions.
Mooneyzs Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 (edited) I was able to sit down for a few tonight and finish working on the Master Cylinder bracket and got it glued to the chassis..... Not a big update but all I worked on tonight for a few    Here is the Master Cylinder Bracket, I added a few holes and got the side panels to shape:      And here it is after getting it glued to the chassis and I am letting it sit overnight so that the glue will dry well:  Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Danno Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Unfriggin'believeable! I'm glad I've seen this build in person ... otherwise I'd have real trouble believing it's a scale replica! Amazing job, Chris!!! And, I just know you'll have her finished in time for GoodGuys Southwest Nationals!!!! Right?
Mooneyzs Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Thanks Danno.... You know I wish I could have this done in time for Goodguys.... the sad fact is that I am having to start back up on 60 to 80 hours a week for work for the next few months. Which doesn't make me too happy and not looking forward to it since its going to cut into my model building time. And I don't know if I will be able to make it out to Goodguys this year since I will probably be working 6 days a week.
gasser59 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 That bracket is amazing Chris. Nicely done. Too bad about all of the hours @ work but I suppose you need to feed this hobby some $ sometime.
Mooneyzs Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Thanks Brad, yeah bummer on hours but you are right that I need to be able to fund this hobby some how lol. At this point I am happy that I am hourly and get OT. Lol
eviltwincustoms Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Very cool master cylinder bracket Chris... Sounds like you will be away from building for a couple weeks then with the OT coming on. Good thing is you will have some extra play money once finished!
stump Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Ah, this thread exudes koolness to the max........ Chris, you have been extremely busy since my last look in, and I gotta say......MOST EXCELLENT work Bro ! The beading on the panel work is fantastic and I love the extra detail you're putting into the brake system. Just need to ask......when you're done, can you post it down to me. GREAT work mate.
Mooneyzs Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Bart... you are right about having a little more play money when I am finished. I will try and get little build time in here and there during the next couple weeks. I am gonna need it as a stress reliever. Greg... Thanks Mate!! This has been fun so far with all of the little extra details I have been putting in. I have a few more details to add to the master cylinder, I haven't had time to go pick up some small o-rings that I will end up using as boot covers on the master cylinder. You will just have to wait and see. I will also make sure and package this thing up real good for ya when I send it your way.... I think I am going to have to get a really nice case for this one when its done or just make one. Virgil... Thank you!!
Fuel Coupe Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Chris, I havent checked in in a while and I must say WOW. What a great job you are doing on this build. Awesome work..
Mooneyzs Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) Hey Shane... Thanks man, glad you were able to swing by and take a look again. I appreciate the kind words. Â Was hoping to have more done but with the way work is right now, kind of stinks. I sat down for a few mins tonight looking at this build. stuck the master cylinder on the bracket and had to shoot a pic of it. No real work done. I did receive some parts from RB Motion for some stuff for the engine, which I was stoked about them getting here. Â Master Cylinder on the bracket: Â Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Uncle Keith Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 So is brake bleeding still a two person job on this car?! hehehe! M/C looks awesome! Nice job! Some day I might be as good as you! You got skills bud. Can you tell me, again, what ashesive you use? Thanks! Have A Great Day!
Mooneyzs Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) Keith... yep I believe brake bleeding is still a two person job ....lol Thanks for the compliments on the M/C. The adhesive I use varies depending on what I am gluing. For bare plastic I use Weld-on #3, its just like tennax or ambroid pro weld. Weld-on #3 is just like the other two exept that the fact that I get it in either pints or quarts and ends up being cheaper in the long run. Instead of paying like 4 or 5 bucks for a 2oz jar. I got my pints for 12 to 13 dollars. the last time I ordered some I ended up getting 2 pints becasue of how cheap I was able to find it. I think I paid like 15 bucks a quart from a place I found it online the cheapest. The other glues I use are 5 min epoxy, CA glues (Plastic ZAP or Bob Smith industries), Micro Scales Krystal Klear ( white glue) and Gator Glue ( for certain photo-etch pieces). It really depends on what I am actually gluing as to what I will use. Here is a pic of the Weld on #3: Â Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Mooneyzs Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 (edited) I was able to sit down for a few mins tonight after working a 13-14 hour day needless to say I am beat and need to get to bed... But I sat down for about 15 mins to work on a little more detail to the master cylinder. I added the rubber boots on the arms that would stroke on the cylinders. I used very small rubber O-rings to create the boot. I know its not much of an update but was pretty excited about getting this done. Thanks for looking   Master Cylinder Boots:  Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
Pro Tech Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Chris, nice! great idea with the O-rings. Charlie Pro Tech
gasser59 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Now that's cool right there, I don't care who you are. Keep plugging away at it Chris, the long road is made up of little steps.
Mooneyzs Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Thanks guys.... I was pretty stoked that I got the look I was hoping for. I originally started out with wrapping wire around the rod end and using heat shrink tubing over that. Just didnt look right and thought of the o-ring idea. Brad... You are right about the build being made up of small steps. I just have been itching to work more on this build but havent had the time I would like. Hopefully soon i will have some more updates to share.
John Teresi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Chris.....honestly the best master cylinder I`ve ever seen.......got to put you up with the best model builder`s out there.......very very nice Chris.
futurattraction Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Your MC is looking super, Chris, and your O-rings are an excellent idea... Great job!
eviltwincustoms Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I would have never thought to use O rings. I was thinking of cutting the end off of something like a Bicycle rubber brake cover that is acordianed.
