spad007 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 .I was just at the hobby store in Aurora. and the price of a spray can of Tamiya Color . just went up to six fifty plus tax. I squawked and the manager said. "It's getting harder to get." and pointed me back to the Testors. at $5.79 Tes 28109 and a can of black 1832 m fer $5.25 not what i wanted but i just had to have some. if my paint glows in the dark i don't care as long as i get a deep discount . there has to be a better way.
george 53 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Anything commin from Japan right now has gone up.They say it'll stay that way for a while, till their economy gets back to normal. But I doubt it'll go back down again, cause once they start gettin MORE money for their stuff, they WON'T give it up. Just the law of supply an demand. They can DEMAND as MUCH as they want, because THEY supply it!!!
ra7c7er Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Went up because of what happened in Japan BUT like the owner of the shop I went to yesterday said it won't go back down. It will stay high even after everything is back on track.
bad0210 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 ive been ordering my tamiya paint from hobbylinc.com. good prices compared to everwhere else ive been.
dougp Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 It's been 6.50 and 6.99 here in N. Idaho/Spokane Wa for the past year. I understand the difficulty in getting Tamiya paints. My local hobby shop that carried Tamiya paints burned down several months ago. The Hobby Town in Spokane doesn't seem excited about keeping it stocked and this was before the quake in Japan.
Danno Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Tamiya paint has been apprx. $6.49 per can here in the Phoenix metro area for about a year, now. No recent increase, but I suppose it's only a matter of time ...
Draggon Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Six bucks and change? What a bargain! I've seen it for $8.99 regularly the the LHS. Guess I can expect to pay 10 bucks now. Oh wait, the primer is already 10 bucks. Reminds me of the natioinal news saying gas will reach $4 a gallon. Where I live, its there now.
Howard Cohen Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I guess you guys in the US are lucky. In Canada we have been paying close to $10 for a can of spray, either Tamiya or Testors, for a couple of years. Remember that many paints are oil based and the price of oil determines the price of the paint. The tragedy in Japan should not affect prices. That sounds like a very poor excuse to me. Toyota hasn't raised their car prices because of the problems in Japan, why should Tamiya? Check the Tamiya US website and send them an inquiry and a complaint.
whale392 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Just wait Howard, there have already been rumblings here in the U.S from Toyota and Honda about the costs going up and laying off American workers as the parts supply houses/manufacturers in Japan have been deeply impacted by the quake. If you can't get the parts to continue to build the cars..........
MikeMc Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Another reason to buy Real American Built cars..... As long as the Mexican and Canadian plants are working making parts
Modlbldr Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hey DougP- I just went to that Hobby Town in Spokane that you're talking about today(I live in Chattaroy- 25 miles North) and picked up five jars of their "Clearance Priced" HOK paints for $1.00/ea. Marked down from $4.50/ea. They have their bottles of Polyscale paints (Railroad and Aircraft) for $1.99 on clearance. Not very nice colors unless you want to do some weathering or use it on an old 41 Chevy like me. Later-
moparfarmer Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I know I'am going to get blasted here but this is my take. If you want your money going back to help Japan make millions more, keep buying their Tamiya and their new Toyotas and Hondas. Sure the car company makes cars in N.A. but money goes back on new product. Keep supporting them and there will be no jobs in N.A. for our people. Whats wrong with Plastikote or Duplicolor? Just as good, and a bigger can for the same or less money.
LAone Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) moparfarmer: i agree with you on the paints. duplicolor and plastikote are great. but, what happened in japan isn't the only thing that affect prices. price of oil also have to do with it. as it goes up, so does everything that needs it does as well. heck, even co2 (fizzy stuff for your sodas and other stuff) companies and distributors are gonna get affected as well. theres a shortage on it as well and prices have gone up already. <(i work at a welding supply store) no one can completely blame japan for this.
