Jantrix Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) This is an AMT 53 Stude that I am building for my Cannonball Run CBP and will eventually wear livery for the Carrera Panamericana. I have replaced the Stude running gear with the suspension/engine/cowl hood/radiator etc from a Revell 68 Vette. Lots of fabrication so far. Exhaust/roll cage/chassis. The hood needs a little more work and then should be ready for primer. I may look into having the hood resin cast as the Baldwin Motion scoop looks all sorts of perfect there. The engine and chassis have been mildly weathered to replicate a veteran racer that's seen some miles. I got her on all four wheels tonight and am satisfied with the stance. This is not supposed to look like a modern pro-tourer but rather something from the 70's and 80's. Edited November 25, 2012 by Jantrix
Rob Z Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 That really does look SWEET!!! I hope you do decide to have that hood cast, I would be interested in a few...
walt francis Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Stinger hood on a Stude ......VERY INTERESTING !!!!
Eric Stone Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 That's cool! I wish I had thought of it first...
Jantrix Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys. I'll admit I was leery of cutting into the hood as I don't have a replacement but no guts, no glory. These are my color choices. Almond beige pearl for the body and alpine green pearl for the top. The old Studes had some great two tones and I wanted to do one of my own. It'll get some classic door numbers and some racing script decals for the Carrera Panamericana that came with a diecast 50's Vette. Primer soon. Edited April 4, 2011 by Jantrix
Jantrix Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 Thanks guys. I'm really happy with it so far.
crazyjim Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Looking good, Rob. I wish I could have helped you out on casting the hood, but it's outta my league - so far.
59 Impala Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I like it so far Rob. Nice stance you got there. I think the color choices you chose will look great on it. I have an extra hood if you're interested in it. I'll trade it to you for the front and rear end pieces that you didn't use. I'm trying to get some parts together for one of the sedan delivery Studebakers. I don't have a doner and need all the parts I can get to put it together. Dan
Jantrix Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 Dan, I do have the stock front valence panel and the associated chrome. I'm going to use the stock light buckets but the custom ones are available. I used the stock rear bumpers/tail lights and the custom piece I have messed with and then discarded the idea so it's trash. Shoot me a PM on the bits you need and I'll see what I can do to fill in the holes although it might just be easier to buy a donor kit.
Jantrix Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Oh cool. I found my original build thread. Here's where I am now. Hope to get paint on it this weekend.
fastram Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Looking good so far. Nice choice for the wheels and tires. They look right on that car.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I'm loving it. Great work so far, please keep it going, those colors are going to fit just right.
jaymcminn Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 That's going to be a mean-looking Loewy coupe. Can't wait to see it with the Carrera Panamerica decals.
59 Impala Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Rob, you're doing justice to a beautiful car my friend. I really like what you've done to the hood. It looks like it came that way from the factory. I'm looking forward to updates on this build fer sure. That sedan delivery I told ya about is on the back burner for now. I have other builds to concentrate on for awhile. Dan
LAone Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 this looks sweet, good thing your back on it. looking forward to more on this one.
Erik Smith Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Nice. I love the look of nostalgic racers. Great work on the hood.
Jantrix Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 (edited) Thanks everyone for the ataboys. I'll try to get this one done soon. Then I'll get back on my Jolly Roger Merc. Edited November 6, 2011 by Jantrix
Scale-Master Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 That is a fun era to model within. I really like what you have done with the hood scoop, and I am a sucker for Minilites...
Jantrix Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 Thanks Mark. This started as just a Stude street machine for a Cannonball CBP, but when I started to do some Google searching on Stude racers I found shots of the Carrera Panamericana Studes that have been so successfull and had to build my own. I have some Carrera Panamericana decals from a diecast 50's Corvette that I'm hoping will do the job. Does anyone know of another kit or decal supplier that does decals for the CP?
