1320wayne Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I noticed a few pages back that it was mentioned that there was no timeline for this community build. So, I'd like to join in. First let me say that although I'm not a rookie to model building I can't say that I'm not when it comes to police cars. I have primarily built drag cars, Nascar or street machines over the years but just recently took on an interest in police vehicles. Last year I completed my first build using the Revell Impala curbside kit along with decals purchased online. I'm not sure if they are Billbozo decals or some other maker. I added a few small subtle details and did some mild weathering, added a dog to the back seat and eventually placed it on a small scenic base. Here's a couple of pics. For the project intended for this build I will be creating a bit of a larger diorama consisting of a wooded scene set in Alaska using an older AMT Ford Explorer suv kit along with Alaska State Troopers decals. I will have some pics. of the beginning of the project shortly.

Couldn't tell you anything about it. This photo was taken at a model show in South Carolina and I have no idea who built the fire truck recovery vehicle.
Janne Herajärvi Posted October 9, 2011 Author Posted October 9, 2011 Looking good guys, and Wayne welcome
1320wayne Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Here is the beginnings of the diorama. It is in the early stages of mockup. I am looking at different types of trees so what you see spread out may not be what finally gets added. The dead tree at the front right with the eagles nest at the top was purchased online and comes almost like you see it. The nest is created just a bit too large for realism sake so I have already removed quite a bit of material to make it look better, and may have to go a bit further still. The 4x4 is only set there to show where the Explorer will be when it's complete. This one should be quite a bit of fun. There will be quite a bit of terrain, some wildlife, rocks and one maybe two officers with K-9's looking for an escaped convict hiding somewhere on the diorama.

Janne Herajärvi Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Good job Jonathan with that Vic
cargostar Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Well, heres one of my builds. This is a Mack/Superior 100' mid-mount aerial. It is one of three identical trucks ordered by Toronto FD.
cargostar Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I don't know why I can't build anything small...... Tail light pods. I built one, and then cast the other. The lenses will get a chrome dress ring around them.
Chuck Most Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Wow! I wouldn't even have shelf space for something that size!
cargostar Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So, after spending a couple of hours under/in a Mack MR garbage truck over the weekend, I was able to come up with the major frame dimensions, and about 150 pics for refrence. Here is the front frame crossmember/tow eye. This a bolt on component to the front of the frame on the 1:1! Here is the lower cab tilt cylinder mount. And, the interior. I'm using one of my "seconds" castings that is laying around.
martinfan5 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) Wow, I am already impressed with this build. Janne- put down for one more build, I am going to do a 1970 ford intercepter phoenix police Edited October 19, 2011 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) Yes I got the AMT issue of it, I did have the hobby heaven one back in 90's when I was a teen. Edited October 21, 2011 by martinfan5
Chuck Most Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Love that kit! Wish they'd bring it back out, even if it does have the wrong engine.
martinfan5 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Well I have to admit I know nothing about the car to be honest, a few years before my time. What is the correct engine?, is there a kit that has the correct engine I could use in it
Agent G Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Yes I got the AMT issue of it, I did have the hobby heaven one back in 90's when I was a teen. Next time we get together, remind me to slap you one upside the back of your head. Oh sheesh Jonathan, I got socks older'n you. G
Danno Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Next time we get together, remind me to slap you one upside the back of your head. Oh sheesh Jonathan, I got socks older'n you. G Disgusting, ain't it? I've got glueblobs on my workbench older than him.
martinfan5 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I will go do my research on the car and report back with my findings. Agent, you will have to remind me to remind you to do that
Chuck Most Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I got it in 2008, when I was in my advanced mid '20's.
martinfan5 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I got it in 2008, when I was in my advanced mid '20's. Haha still older then you, and when I was in my 20's I wouldn't call that my advance days at all
Chuck Most Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Well, 26 is on the long end of mid 20's, thats knocking on the door to 'late 20's'. I went beater with that one. Next one I'm thinking of doing up as a period Michigan State Police mount.
