Peter Lombardo Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Finished this the other day….I know, F1, not any ones “cup of tea†here….sorry…..anyway, this is my favorite F1 car from a great era of real racing….back when overtaking another driver was done on the track, not in the pits. Anyway, this is the Hasegawa 1/20 scale 1975 Ferrari 312T of Niki Lauda from his World Championship Year. The car was built with the Hasegawa photo-etch dress-up pieces too. The paint is Italian Red from Tamiya and Duplicolor White, all clear coated. After the decals were applied, the body panels were coated with Future to seal everything. The driver figure is a Tamiya piece with a working movable visor. I have the hole drilled in the helmet, and the oxygen line is in place but I have not connected it to the helmet yet….sorry. I also have the Hasegawa 312T2 and the Tamiya 312T3 to complete to go with this car. Ok, you are board enough looking at it….I know….avert your eyes….quickly, they may begin to burn…..Oh the horror……F1 models! Sorry.
Rob Hall Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Beautiful build. I've gone as far as open the box on mine and study the instructions and parts trees, but have yet to start it. Love that era of F1...
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Why do you assume that nobody here likes F1? Maybe the problem is that not enough F1 models get posted!
Rob Hall Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I need to build some of mine and post pics...I started watching F1 (and Indy Car) on TV as a kid in the late '70s, and was a big fan through the '80s an and in recent years after going to a couple vintage racing events have become fascinated w/ F1 and sports car racing (Le Mans, Sebring, etc) of the '60s-70s, with the cars and the drivers...been building a collection of DVDs of racing of that era (season by season coverages and DVDs on specific drivers). My older sister is an even bigger F1 fan, she got into it in the late '60s.
jeffs396 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Why do you assume that nobody here likes F1? Maybe the problem is that not enough F1 models get posted! Exactly!!! Maybe there will be more interest in F1 when it returns to the USA next year via the brand-new purpose built circuit in Austin, Texas!!! Very clean build Peter!
MikeMc Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Well Peter, if it was finished (oxygen line) you might get more interest. I however would love to see a few engine shots and some up close of the body covered with Future.... I must also agree about Niki....one of the all time greats!
TheDocktor40 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Looks fantastic man! Love the old F1 cars. I'll have to add a 312 to my list of cars to do.
Nova-ss Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I love F1 racing and the cars that run as well.I would love to see and hear more about the sport and the cars.your build is great.if it wouldn't have said F1...I mite not have looked but cause you put F1 in the title it got my attention.thank you,Chris
randx0 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Hey this is a very nicely built F1 model ,why wasn't I warned? Now my eyes are burning.
Dave B Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) Beautiful build, I love F1 and sports racing cars from the 50's to late '70's. Also like the opposite lock. Dave B Edited May 2, 2011 by Bantoft
diymirage Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 ive always enjoyed watching F1 and consider it among the very top of racing (that and WRC) one thing i always loved about the sport is the one choice you had on tires, dry weather or rain ive seen races that were decided by the choise of tires when the weather changed or didnt act as expected from all the men who have driven F-1 i might know 5 names, the shumachers, jos verstappen, the guy who is now doing the rednecks going left thing and nicki lauda great build
58 Impala Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Another big F1 and Indy car fan here. Very nice job, great detailing. I have a 1/12 Tamiya kit of the same car- still unbuilt. I have around a dozen F1 kits, mostly Schumacher kits.
funhouse1 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Fantastic! My only complaint is the pics aren't big enough...
Kanedge Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Fantastic! My only complaint is the pics aren't big enough... I agree totally, sweet build. Was the photoetch in the kit or bought separately?
Eshaver Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Peter, looks great to me , but thats my opinion........... Ed Shaver
seeker589 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Peter - Great looking model! I, too am a fan of international road racing. F1, IMSA, World Sports Car and touring car racing. I autocrossed and hillclimbed a few years back. NASCAR hasn't been redneck racing since Earnhardt died. Everyone is way too polished.
Adam144 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Huge F1 fan here, especially vintage. Nice build! I wish more forum users would post F1 builds.
Yekoms Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Nice build... besides anything with Niki Lauda ia OK with me. That is the scoop that I used years ago on this Fiat. Smokey
bsoder Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Well I looked at those pics pretty hard and my vision is no worse than it was! actually I think these cars are works of art and yours looks very nice, I wouldn't mine giving one a try....
Pete J. Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Oh there are plenty of F1, sports cars, WRC lovers around this forum! We just don't make a lot of noise, but do enjoy a great build. Keep them coming.
