gasser59 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Not any work going on at the bench lately, I'm sad to report. I threw my back out and I can't sit bent over my bench for any length of time without tons of pain although I can do just about everything else. So I decided to take a break for a while. I'll get back to this build if it kills me just not right away. I really miss working on it and a few other builds that are in the early stages. Stay tuned...
Mooneyzs Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Hey Brad... Really sorry to hear that you threw your back out. That just stinks. I hope you are able to recover fast. Look forward to seeing you get back to this build when you are feeling better. Rest up and get well soon.
Mister Twister Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 The amount of detail is simply fantastic and you did it on a unique subject matter....What a great build!!
gasser59 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks to both of you guys Chris and Darryl. I hope to be back at it soon but the DW and I are heading out of town for a few days starting this Wednesday. I have a couple of days on the back end of being out of town before I need to go back to work so I'm hoping to get some quality bench time in then.
John Teresi Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Brad......incredible scratch building and detail......luv this build.......you got talent Bro!!!!!
speedy5963 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Very nice, I like all the detailed pics, thank you!
rustybill1960 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL MAN ! ! ! Thank You for sharing Later Russ
gasser59 Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) A bit of progress to report. I have long been planning to cover my frame side panels with aluminum sheet since the paint was starting to come off from all of the handling and as said earlier, nothing simulates metal like metal. I had planned on drilling out the holes for the Dzus fasteners and putting in the head of a small brass rivet but after drilling one hole indentation, I may just leave it the way it is. A few decals were added under the engine to liven things up. Now its onto the firewall and steering arm(s). I also got my order in to Jim @ MicroNitro for the wheels and I'm really stoked about seeing what he comes up with and getting them on board. Thanks for following along. Sinister_Kreationz Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 VERY NICE BUILD LOVE THE DETAIL WORK... IT JUST MAKES THE BUILD LOOKS SO MUCH CLEANER.. MY NEXT BUILD WILL BE A RAT ROD BUT NOT THE TYPICAL RAT ROD . AND IM GOING TO DEATIL THE ENGINE AND HAVE IT LOOKING VERY NICE LIKE THIS ONE
Mooneyzs Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Brad this is looking sweet man!! Those side tins look gorgeous. You are knocking this.build out of the park. Glad you were able to get some more bench time on this. Keep up that great work.
nobody Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 dude that is so awesome, including the hill- borne injection, the suspension is way cool,I know that you need a few things from R.B. motion. but way cool can't wait until you finish it.
Mister Twister Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 The panels look great and your build is really taking shape....Sweet!
gasser59 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Thanks so much guys. Glad to be back at the bench. I've got my machined wheels order into Jim at MicroNitro and cant wait to get this chassis all buttoned up so I can move onto paint. I've got a bit of research to do to source a place to print my decals that I still need to finish up. Any suggestions?
gasser59 Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) With a inquiry in a new thread, I found Joseph at Fireball Modelworks who will be able to print my custom decals. Now I just got to figure out the final design on the body but primarily it will be painted HOK Tangelo with a cream vintage insert for the name decal in orange as shown earlier in this thread. Wish I could have this completed for the upcoming Southwest Goodguy's show next weekend but I'm sure that's wishful thinking. I'm getting close but not that close. eviltwincustoms Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Brad very nice job, outstanding work... i love all the little details... as a Plus I am very fond of the HOK Tangelo and I call it a HOK Milkshake.... I take HOK base white and HOK cinnimon pearl and make a really nice cream color! My other favorite colors in HOK are Sunrise and Sunset... You will definitely have a winner in that Combo you are planning out... can't wait to see it finished. Is there someone on this form that does Custom Decal work? I would love to find someone that can print white decals on Clear Paper.. Can't find the money to cough up the cash for an Alps Printer.
gasser59 Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Thanks Bart. I know ScaleNut does custom decal printing but his equipment isn't set up at the moment and he's not sure when he'll be up and running. Plus the fact that when he's back up, he's got a bunch of orders to fill. Joseph at Fireball was recommended and he responded to my email inquiry quickly. I'll let you know what happens on this thread when I get back in touch with him and send him my file. Creating the artwork isn't a problem for me, just need quality decals printed up.
gasser59 Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) Thank you all for the compliments. It is much appreciated and really boosts me to keep at this. I have a nasty habit of getting about 90% done with my builds before they get shelved and onto the next build. I promise this one will get 100% completed though. Some updates to share with you guys but first a confession: I LOVE alclad. Never done it before or even used an airbrush on models in the past and I'm now a convert. I painted the headers with two light coats of alclad gloss black and then chrome. Its unbelievable how this finish looks. Spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out my wheelie wheels and framing structure; how they were going to mount to the frame and the overall shape. I decided to go old school and configured them with steel rod, aluminum tubing and one more orange Gatorade cap wheel and aluminum wheel mount. For now, these just slip into holes in the chassis until I get my wheels and brake rotors in from Jim at MicroNitro so I can still get my fingers and tools in there to plumb my brakes. I must say, I'm really happy how they turned out. That's today's update. Again, thanks for following along. Edited August 22, 2017 by gasser59
Mooneyzs Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Brad you are blowing me away on this build. Man it gets better and better. Those wheelie bars look great. And so does those headers. I cant wait to shoot some of the alclad on my funny. You got some great results. Keep up the great work on this. This thing is beautiful.
Greg Myers Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I'm seeing spokes back on the front. I like it.The rest ain't too shabby either.
gasser59 Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) Greg - the spokes are temporary until my machined rims come from Jim. I sent one front wheel and tire along with one of each for the rear as welI and I needed to something to hold the frame in the correct ride height so I could make the wheelie wheels. I agree the spokes look right at home on the front but we'll see what Jim comes up with. I'm sure you'll like them better. Edited November 14, 2011 by gasser59
tyrone Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Oh yeah man you are killing this build, love your detailing, really nice.....
W-409 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Great job, this build is spectacular! I really like the engine detailing, have you tried to fire that engine up yet? And that Alclad looks very good, something what I have to get also. Wheelie bars look great. I can't wait to see more.
