LaughingIndian Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I buy , fix and resell cars so my daily driver changes on a regular basis.I just sold my quad cab Dakota, and before it was a 1998 Ford SVT, I also had a 1995 Ford Contour with a 2.5 V6 and 5 spd,,,those cars were a blast to drive and super easy to resell . I would love to have another SVT Contour Currently driving a 2005 Grand Caravan I bought to fix and flip. As for my daily driver next week or next month, who knows I drove my 2000 SVT Contour cross country down the pacific coast highway and back to Mass in 2003. In Montana I set the cruise control at 100+ mph with my wife next to me and my daughter in the back and a trunk load of our (mostly theirs) luggage. My wife never new it. I still got the car as a short commuter with just 96000 on it. I can't find a replacement for any price. Best car I ever owned.
Nitrozilla Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I knew a girl who bought a new car, showed it off to all her friends over the weekend, then got the call on Monday to bring it back. That really hurt! Yeah, that would SUCK! It was unfortunate for them. I can only imagine the feelings that go along with that. On the other tentacle, life was waaaay overdue to give me a helping hand. I'm going to attribute it to karma.
Rodent Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I knew a girl who bought a new car, showed it off to all her friends over the weekend, then got the call on Monday to bring it back. That really hurt! Having worked on the other side of things, I can guarantee that the dealership probably knew that the deal wasn't going to stick when they rolled her. Hoping against hope. Also possible that she "left something out" of her credit application.
Rodent Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I am currently driving the Dead Mother In Law's 06 Camry and a ZQ8 S10. The other half gets to drive the new Focus.
Rodent Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 That Focus is a good looking car. IMO Thanks. It's the Titanium trim level and has the handling package. 235/40-18 summer Pilot Sport 3s on 8.5 inch wheels is interesting on a car of that size. Decent power and just over 30 mpg mixed city/highway in the 4000 miles since new. Awesome stereo system too :-)
Toast Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Picked this up about a month ago. I really like it. Maybe I should have washed it before taking a picture though?
charlie8575 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I picked this up in January. It's 1992 Chevy Lumina Euro. I got it on absolute auction on eBay for $985. Only 86k and change when I got it. It has about 90k on it now. From the looks of things, it was someone's "Cape Car-" kept as a second car in a garage down on Cape Cod at a summer house. Even with the 3-speed auto, it's good on gas, nice on the road. I miss my Roadmaster for long trips (two emergency trips to Long Island to help a friend,) but the car itself is quite nice overall. The only thing it needed when I got it was a fuel filter and the torque converter clutch to be unplugged, as it wasn't releasing, and causing the engine to stall. It shifts a little odd sometimes, but my mechanic said it should be a major problem. I'll be getting an ATF change prior to heading to NNL-East. It needs a little surface rust cleaned up, but it's very solid and clean overall. I definitely got a good deal on this. Charlie Larkin
charlie8575 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 What happened to the Roadmaster Charlie? All the electrical problems have become too much for me to deal with, but with all the stuff in the car, I'm not selling it to junk it, still way too soild for that, but great for someone that wants to tinker with it and understands automotive electrical systems (at least newer ones) better than I do. I plan to take the money and use it towards another B wagon of some kind. I do like having one of those around. The Lumina is a nice little car that's easy on gas, but a Caprice/Roadmaster/Customer Cruiser is SO much nicer on long trips. Charlie Larkin
MuellerFace Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I'm driving a 2011 Ford Taurus SHO with 30k miles. By far the best car I've ever owned.
Joe Handley Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Well, here's my 200 with the new BFG rubber, whaddya think?!
Nitrozilla Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I think it needs Bat Wings over the rear quarters, then red pinstripes like the '66 Batmobile. Don't forget the roof light.
charlie8575 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Aggressive tires, Joe. What model are they? And how do they ride? Charlie Larkin
W-409 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Now I'll have to post a couple of pics as I finally got my 1:1 project driveable. It's working really nicely now and I'm glad that the rust repairs are done. So it has a 283 Small Block with PowerGlide trans.
om617 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Looks really good Niko. Did you raise it for the tire/wheel combo? I guess this got the cast iron PowerGlide, those can take a beating.
Nitrozilla Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Uber sweet ride Niko. Wish I'd owned one of those at your age. NEVER let it go !!!!!!!!
W-409 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Thanks Guys! It's a very cool car even if it's not a Show Car by any means. Paint job is the worst part - it has been painted in 1988 in Texas so it has some patina in it (scratches etc). Tommy: No, it hasn't been raised, but with those tires it sits a bit higher than it did originally. Currently it has 225/75/15 on front and 255/70/15 on rear. And actually it has an aluminum PowerGlide. It was swapped to this in 1990 when the car had a powerful 327 SBC. I have the original cast iron PG as well and I might install it on place sometime. Joe: Nope, I think I have no plans on letting it go. I know the full history from the moment when it was bought to Finland in 1988 and there are lots of stories following with that car. Ray: You should have seen it when I drove to my high school with that thing today. Many other students were looking like they had never seen a car before.
Joe Handley Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Aggressive tires, Joe. What model are they? And how do they ride? Charlie Larkin Here you go Charlie, they seem to ride better than the GY's it came with, but I also went from 225/50TR18 to 235/50ZR18, which has a bit more sidewall. The improvement in accelleration and cornering though is astounding!http://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireDetailsServlet?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+COMP-2+A%2FS&partnum=255WR7GFC2AS&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes
Nitrozilla Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) In general, any car that has a suspension designed for bias ply tires benefits greatly from radial tires. The radial's flexible sidewall makes all the difference in the world. Not to mention modern tires have more sipes, gripping edges, for better traction on cornering and acceleration. For steering response, it feels like you just installed a rack & pinion. But you just got them for the looks, right? Edited April 16, 2015 by Nitrozilla
