Prostreet Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Looking for a good place to buy Tamiya spray paint. Looked around a little alot of places seem to be out of stock. Joe
Steve Keck Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Maybe an overseas website that ships to the US? It may be faster than waiting for Tamiya to restock.
johnnyb Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Most are out of stock due to a relabeling issue. There are multiple discussions of this everywhere. Some say that they are coming back in sept.
XJ6 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I at first thought it was just a relabeling issue.....Now i think it is a Formula issue, of the paint....My LHS tells me it should be here in Oct..Ha Ha Ha...Not their fault.....Good Ol'e Tamiya....Cheers...
Chillyb1 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 This the best place I've found: http://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Paint_and_Construction/browse.php?s=3&t=1&u=0&pg=1&ppp=24&sb=stocknumber&so=a&e=0&man=TAM
Mike Kucaba Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Best Place? Right now and probably for the last year I'd say JAPAN :D

Tamiya is relabeling them because of CA. Then the Tsunami hit the mfgring plant..Its coming...Sept or October
tim boyd Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I at first thought it was just a relabeling issue.....Now i think it is a Formula issue, of the paint....My LHS tells me it should be here in Oct.. My LHS (in Michigan) also told me last week that it is an issue involving the formula of the paint, and that the State of California legislation involving carcinogens figures into it. The Hobby Store source said that, when combined with the Japanese Earthquake (and, presumably, the non-availibilty of certain paint pigments), the entire situation has prompted Tamiya to do a complete re-think of their spray paint lineup including the formulas and paint colors. Although this source sounded credible, I'm taking this as semi-informed hearsay rather than fact. That is, until we hear the real story from Tamiya themselves. TIM .
Prostreet Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 (edited) Most places were out of the colors i was looking for, I finally found some one ebay from arizona. Some in the spray and some in jars. Thx. for the replies. Joe Edited August 29, 2011 by Prostreet
Harry P. Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 california?? i thought it was cause of the EPA?? California has even stricter guidelines than the EPA does. So if they want to sell their product in California, they have to meet California's standards.

Thx. for the replies. Joe When you say jars,do you mean the acrylic or the synthetic lacquer? I've never seen the Lacquer in jars or bottles, only the spray.
LAone Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 California has even stricter guidelines than the EPA does. So if they want to sell their product in California, they have to meet California's standards. wow, i had no idea. wow, thanks cali legislators for making it easier once again for automotive/hobby enthusiasts...(can you sense the sarcasim?)

58 Impala Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Tamiya should just sell California their acrylic paints and leave the good paint for the rest of us. California can be a pain when it comes to stuff like this, next thing you know they'll ban crayola watercolors.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Well I'll be,I just looked at a couple Japanese hobby sites and they are out of stock with the primers . Could be the earthquake/sunami disaster affecting the homeland.
robertw Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 If you're close to the Canadian border or know someone coming here have them check out Canadian hobby shops. Not all shops carry the Tamiya spray line but those that do don't seem to be having the same problems as shops in the US. On a recent trip to several shops in my province I found full racks and even several cans of the elusive primers. Rob in Saskatchewan
Lownslow Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 stupid california fall into the ocean already
LAone Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 hey hey, blame it on politics, greedy fatcats in 50k suits
my80malibu Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I was at a LHS here in Arizona and the proprietor/ clerk, told me that they had just gotten a shipment of sprays from Tamiya but sold out very quickly and were waiting for some more.I asked about the acrylic water based stuff and he replied that that was still a month away. Has anyone else seen or heard this?
RickRollerLT1 Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Best place to buy it would be from a club member that sells stuff or needs to get rid of his junk for cash. Nuff said.
Tonioseven Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 There's a LARGE shipment of Tamiya sprays sitting on a dock in California awaiting new labels. I got this from a hobby store owner that has a sizeable back order of them. Luckily he had the colors I needed in stock.
PatRedmond Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 We had our re-labelling about 10 years ago up here. Jeff Johnston Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 best place to buy Tamiya spray I think is Japan. My not so local hobby shop still has a lot, but has run out of the staple colors like Semi Gloss Black, primer, silver, etc.
