Dr. Cranky Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 That engine is looking real good.
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Starting on a '52 now. Yep, '52. I won't say how I got the '52 grille and wheels just yet, but obviously I have them.
tabsscale1 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Todd- I hate you for beating me to making up tuck and roll interior panels! Dominik- I think yours is the first Hornet kit I've seen painted black. The metal trim looks great. I still have to finish mine may get to work on a model on Tuesday been busy around here
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 You're still further ahead with your tuck and roll side panels than me, though- I've only gotten as far as tracing out the stock panels onto a piece of styrene sheet.
Aaronw Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I've got the body painted and finished the foil. Between this and a 59 El Camino I almost wiped out a whole sheet of BMF. I need to go back and buff a few spots that got scuffed during the foiling. The color is Krylon Dark Hunter Green
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nice! I've used that same color on quite a few projects of my own- looks great on the Hud. Bonus points for keeping the cut lines for the panel between the trunk and back window intact- those try to make an escape along with the mold lines in that area when you sand the body.
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Oh- did you notice the molded lip on the glass (windsheild and backlight pane)? Don't forget to foil it!
Olskoolrodder Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Chuck: NICE ('52) Aaronw: Body looks sweet, nice job on the BMF!
Aaronw Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Oh- did you notice the molded lip on the glass (windsheild and backlight pane)? Don't forget to foil it! On the clear parts? I'll have to look for that, thanks.
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Really like the stance here- bugger is, the front frame crossmember is sitting on the ground! The front end could theoretically go even lower!
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 On the clear parts? I'll have to look for that, thanks. Yep- you'll see a raised lip around the perimeter of the front and rear glass- that represents the window seals, which are chrome. Best thing might be to foil them, then paint the edges black to represent the exposed rubber, but I'm not sure my hands are that steady.
Aaronw Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I had not looked that far ahead. Maybe mask, paint black then foil? Black Sharpie?
Olskoolrodder Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Really like the stance here- bugger is, the front frame crossmember is sitting on the ground! The front end could theoretically go even lower! I'm LOVING that stance too!!!
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Penciled in the suspension- actually managed to get it a bit lower in back, but the front sits a little higher now. Might fix that, might not... still needs a little bit of daylight under the rockers for the lake pipes I plan to put on it. Also plugged in a Cadillac 345 engine I already built years ago.
Olskoolrodder Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Looks great! DIGGIN' that Caddy mill Edited November 29, 2011 by Olskoolrodder
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I had not looked that far ahead. Maybe mask, paint black then foil? Black Sharpie? I'm going to try a fine tip black Sharpie, and proceed from there.
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Just couldn't resist seein how she looked with her brightwork in place... The taillights on this one were more pink than red, so I hit them with a red Sharpie to darken them. The lenses are molded clear but painted red at the factory, the actual hue seems to vary a bit though.
Olskoolrodder Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I'm loving the stance and color (no-shine is fine!)...do you have to shine it up?
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Leaning toward Testors Mystic Emerald for the body and wheels, maybe with Lime Ice for the roof, and perhaps under the side trim.
Greg Pugh Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 That looks great Chuck. I love the stance.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Keep it going, Chuck. Man, you're almost finished with your second Hudson and I haven't even finished my first. Geez, too many projects.
wgflatliner Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I have been doing lots of research. I started on the frame finally. Got it cleaned up and painted and finding as many reference photos as possible to build it somewhat realistic Some links http://www.significantcars.com/collections/royce/rc33/fullsize.html Will get some pics as I progress. Hope the links are helpful!
W-409 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) I'm in! I got one Hornet for birthday present, I'll build it as Factory Stock before building Gasser, Nascar and Custom versions... Here are some pictures, what's in the box. Maybe they are not interesting, because so many does already have this kit, and we've seen pics from the parts, but anyway, posted these on Finnish forum, because there were no pictures. Now I post a link. http://public.fotki.com/NostalgicDrag/53-hudson-hornet/ I'll get started tomorrow, but while waiting, please tell me, what was the correct engine color? Edited December 2, 2011 by W-409
wgflatliner Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Gold is the engine color. I used testers spray paint. It gives it a decent look. I have seen other golds and they don't have the right sheen so it seems.
