Old Buckaroo Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Just saw this - my room I salvaged the bench from when I disassembled my model rr about 10 years ago.
charlie8575 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) What do you guys do with the model once it's built? 20 years ago I used to build but I ran out of more for the finished ones. I had like three 8 foot shelves and they were door to door all the way down the shelves then they were coated in dust and I ened up throwing them away. Just curious what you guys do, sell them maybe? First thing is not to put them on open shelves if you can. Always use cases if possible, or least shelving units with doors. Compressed air cans do a pretty good job of cleaning off dust. Really out of space? Get creative with your displays. Build a coffee table that doubles as a display shelf out of wood and plexiglass, or, build a diorama that's space and display-efficient and utilize vertical space. If you really must, you can always sell or simply wrap in newspaper and bubble-wrap, place them in baseball card boxes and then box up excess built-ups and rotate displays. martinfan5 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 All my builds are on open shelves, haven't had one try to escape yet
slusher Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just saw this - my room I salvaged the bench from when I disassembled my model rr about 10 years ago. Great paint booth set up...
racedriver25 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Just finished re-arranging my hobby room. I had over 90 1/32 scale aircraft but knew I would never build them all because I enjoy building cars a lot more. So sold them on E-bay and used the money to buy the mill and a bunch of car models. I enjoy building 120mm figures also, I have 12 in the stash but not pictured.
OldTimer50707 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 My work area was in an unheated basement. My grandson who has lived with us for the past 2 years, finally got a place of his own and guess what I did to his old room? Yep, it is my model room now. I may move my old computer desk up from the basement. I'm going to wait to see how the table works out in the new shop.
FASTBACK340 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Jim, I'd swap locations with the lathe & spray booth in front of the Palm Tree wall art. WHat a great back drop!!!
cartpix Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 My old work bench was built from a hollow core door, but it had it's limitations. So a trip to Home Depot & $80 later, I had the makings of a new work space. Here's a shot of the old one. It was only 81" long & It was a bit too deep, at 29". If a part dropped, it was a major search to find. Was it behind /under the drawer unit, behind the computer, who knows. Here's the new one It's 115" long, 24" deep, & 3/4" thick, wall to wall. I can easily reach to the back & now, if I drop something, it will be contained between the "walls". The 24" monitor, with HDMI input< can toggle between the cable box & the PC & the 17" is just is to surf while watching TV. I still need to clean up & I'm ready to build again.

highway Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 At one time, this was my bench, but that was a little over two years, two ex girlfriends, and other life issues ago. Thankfully, life has finally started getting back to normal and life issues are not much of an issue anymore, and in November me and my new girlfriend moved into our own house, and it even came fully stocked with a built in model room! I have some work to to do to modify or totally rebuild the workbench, but that will eventually become my new centerpiece of my model room. My girlfriend already said I get the whole basement (minus her space for the washer and dryer ) and I hope to get the whole collection moved out of storage soon and get building during my time of of my new job driving truck delivering grocery items to local Wallyworlds.

bill w Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I told my wife I would finish the basemaent if I could have a 1/3 of it for my hobby. I have my shop and the kids have the rest. The kids have been gone for a few years now, so I'm thinking of taking the rest of the basement for myself. Not sure if the wife will agree. Bill
