Darin Bastedo Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 The station I listened to growing Up in Syracuse NY had a 1962 Corvette they called the "62 Heavy Vette". This car was at all the parades and car shows when I was kid. I already have the artwork ready for the decals, now all I need is the kit.
Qwit Pushin Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Interesting. Look forward to seeing progress pic's once you acquire the kit.
Darin Bastedo Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Interesting. Look forward to seeing progress pic's once you acquire the kit. Thankfully it is a fairly simple box stock build except for wheels, tires and decals. Though I might swap out the FI for a more correct single 4bbl
Chuck Most Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I'm thinking of Paris Fish's old '70's Street Machine from the bleak years of Hot Rod.

Junkman Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Here are the reasons why I'm looking forward to the Revell 62 Corvette: - The old AMT 62 Corvette is rubbish - My attempt to fit a Revell 1960 Corvette front clip to an AMT 62 Corvette is even bigger rubbish - I owned and restored a real 62 Corvette - I like 62 Corvettes - Now I need two, because I also like the Heavy Vette Darin posted
DON-T2 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Finally a decent kit to build Big John's BB/GS Vette. The roof from the 57 to 59 versions should work ( I hope ). Edited October 25, 2011 by DON-T2

I was going to go with Revell's '59 however, and turn the whole works into a '61. Now with the '62 coming out, that should make my job a LOT easier. My only disappointment in the kit so far, is that there's no hardtop included-----at least that's what preliminary reports of what the kit will contain says. I hope at least the kit has an uptop, otherwise there's always the parts bin.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Very interesting, and I love those old pics.

MrObsessive Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Surely it will come with an uptop! I think Revell learned their lesson with the '72 Olds kit since they later released it with an uptop. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't come with a top especially since the '59 came with one. I would really like to see Revell reissue their '69 RS/SS Camaro convertible with an uptop. Hmmm..........I dunno Roger. Here's a pic of the test shot I swiped off the Spotlight Board...........I don't see an uptop or a hardtop on the runners anywhere. Interestingly, I see the glass which would be for the hardtop-----Probably for a future release. I hate when they do that though. That's what makes '56-'62 'Vettes IMO.........their hardtops! Ditto about the '69 Camaro.........including an uptop should have been automatic.

It's entirely possible that the tooling isn't finished yet, from what I could tell this tooling is still in it's early development stages.
Danno Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 It will be great to see all the variations that will be created by all the talented modelers who hang out here. I just don't want to see Dr. Cranky rust one up!!!
58 Impala Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I'm really looking foward to Revell '62 Vette. The AMT kit is less than desirable, but is all that is out there. As for a hardtop for the Revell kit, someone in the resin world is bound to come up something.
Chuck Most Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 You mean this one? Yeah that's pretty cool. Yep, that's the one. Now I just need to find a figure of a John Candy-looking guy with a combover to go with it!
Casey Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Yep, that's the one. Now I just need to find a figure of a John Candy-looking guy with a combover to go with it! Hmmmm, combine an Ed Roth figure, with a John Milner head...
oldcars Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 The only other thing it needs is an opening trunk. It was afterall the last vette to have a real trunk. Anyone remember the annuals with the metal clip that AMT had for opening and closing the trunk? That would only be fifty years ago. Richard

Thanks, dude, now I'm feeling old.
Art Anderson Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Why do I have to have the '62 Vette? Simple: I KNOW where I was in '62--graduating from HS, starting off to college. Art
Rob Hall Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I have to have a couple...build one stock and one period street machine probably. I like the '62 design, partially because the 1st Corvette model I ever built as a kid around 1979 was the AMT 'Countdown Series' '62.....
