RickRollerLT1 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Most of the Revell Ferarris i've (tried to) tackle were like Chuck said, warped, ill-fitting junk. I hope the snap kit is better but judging from the pics, it looks like just the body will be from the glue kit, abit with some heavy modifictions to make the part for the snap conversion (along with an engine insert for the glass piece to show through, among other things)
Dr. Cranky Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 As far as the topic at hand, I think there's more for me to be excited about next year than all the releases of the past decade. I totally agree, just the fact that a few new tools and those 70s vans coming back, it's very exciting.
Jordan White Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I'm looking forward to the 70's GM pickup with the plow. Not only is it the style of Chevy/GMC that I love the most, it also comes with a plow and some cool extra parts. I plan on at buying at least three: one to make into a 2WD long bed 3/4 ton in the way that I wanted to build my 1:1 truck (before I sold it), one to make into a 1 ton flatbed plow truck with gooseneck hitch (for my Galaxy triple axle), and a third to make into a GMC Jimmy High Sierra. Bye bye money! Hopefully they are sold at Micheals so I can use the discount coupons!
Jordan White Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Plus the Fall Guy truck was an 80's model. AMT's GMC pickup was once out as a Fall Guy kit, then later they made it a normal truck with all the extra parts (and of course the stupid bed compartment "doors" on the bedsides remained).
Casey Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 the upcoming GMC truck re-issue is a short bed, the Fall Guy truck was a longbed. Plus, the MPC GMC Pickup is 1/25 scale, whereas the ex-Monogram GMC pickup is 1/24 scale.
Joe Handley Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 IIRC, it should be possible to make a Fall Guy truck from it, you will need to lift it, put the Aoshima big tires on it, depending on which truck you're building it may need to be streched, and you will have to scratch build the pushbar and convert it over to the rectangular headlights the early Fall Guy trucks had.
Eshaver Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Well, it seems to me the model companies are playing "Safe " with the re- issues as there has been somewhat a pent -up demand for the vans . The 57 Ford mentioned is another "Safe " variant . The 50 Oldsmobile seems to be so far to be a hash of A M T- Revell tooling made into a plastic kit . Look, I'll buy several new kits in the coming year as it's PRACTICAL to do so . As for going out on a limb , nope . Still, if the out of the ordinary stuff does indeed show , I may change my mind ........................ Ed Shaver

So basically just get one of the older AMT GMC truck kits and get the resin long bed.
Rob Hall Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 So basically just get one of the older AMT GMC truck kits and get the resin long bed. I got a resin long bed from a seller on eBay..it was pretty rough. Don't know if there is another one out there.

Scale Production made a resin longbed, but it looks like it is no longer available: http://www.scaleproduction.de/ Edited October 27, 2011 by Casey
Rob Hall Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I do have a couple of the GMC reissues, 2wd suspension, and a grille from an '81 Chevy kit...plan to make a long bed by cutting and pasting w/ two beds (unless I find a better resin long bed) to do a replica of a 2wd '81 Chevy longbed fleetside my Dad had back in the day...
iBorg Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I'm so-so..... The Gremlin will be nice to have back. I don't remember how "nice" it is. The Beswick funny car will be nice if its priced right although I'm not sure it will be in much demand since Revell blessed us with a good Logghe chassis. Now if Revell would take that chassis put an accurate body and motor on it and make a USA-1 Camaro they would have a home run. The Petty Charger will be nice to have available. I have a built up street charger and this will be one sweet piece depending on price. The Camaro convertible I'll probably buy. Should be able to make it a father-son project. The slot cars will flop. The Lindberg Bullhorn T could be good but needs to be priced right. I'm looking forward to Iwata Neo airbrush. Could be a great entry level brush. Hmm can you say ......$50 retail price and Hobby Lobby discount coupon.... Am I excited? Is there anything to get me to drive to a hobby slot frothing at the mouth to buy? No. I'll wait for discount coupons and buy if the price is right and the mood strikes.
peekay Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Being 61, I'll definitely have to have all the 50s stuff. The 50 Olds is bound to be a hot cake. I hope the 57 Ford becomes a 58 at some stage - like the blue and white one my uncle bought when I was 8. After all, the (Revell) 65 Chevy became a 66. Took a while though.
BobbyG Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Revell maybe be following Mobieus' lead, they are coming out with cars from the fifties and they're not Chevys. Hpw about that! I can't wait for the 57 Ford and the 50 Olds, and if they sell well enough, hopefully more will follow...how about some wagons too!
blubaja Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Can't wait to get a bunch of manxs. Hope the chrome trees are cleaned up of flash....wishful thinking lol
Nick Notarangelo Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 The last few years I have been happy about the 57 chevy kits that have been released but I agree it istime for a break,I do like the current crop of kits coming out,But I would like to see maybe some anualls of either everyday cars or truck like what was done back in the sixty's thought the mid ninety's. Trucks are a good seller and it's always nice to see whats coming out but lets face it on that one for example revell drop the ball a few years back with the release of the Dodge Ram sport truck, theres a example of something they couldve done with a long box 3 n 1 also,And one of Amt's biggest mistake is they only kept releasing chevy trucks and not really offering anything diffrent, plus the fact they only release limited runs through certin modeling websites"Model King,Model Round Up,etc"when those could be kits that should be released threw everyone else. But this years kits are very promising and lets hope it gets better, with much new subjects or stuff we haven't seen in years"ten or more years to be exact".
horsepower Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 O.K. how do I get to see what we are all drooling over?
Casey Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) Honestly, I think this kit is of more value to those wanting to build a '69 GTO in 1/25th scale ... Wasn't this kit released as the "Judge" Funny Car by Model King a few years ago, or is it from different tooling? is the 77 gmc a 3n1 or its plan plow truck. One version only, but the plow is new to this kit. Edited October 29, 2011 by Casey
Chuck Most Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 The problem with the GTO F/C is that the body is bone stock, as was common practice with a lot of F/C kits back in the day. Converting it to an accurate F/C body would actually require a fair amount of work to convert it to an accurate F/C body. Honestly, I think this kit is of more value to those wanting to build a '69 GTO in 1/25th scale ... just grab this kit for the body and an AMT '72 GTO kit for the rest. And yeah, I'm in 100 percent agreement that Revell needs to do a Camaro or two from its new F/C tooling! That's exactly what I did with the Model King 'Prosecutor' GTO funny car kit from a few years back. No, the project still isn't done! Forgettabout the Fall Guy GMC- I'd like to see them bring back the long, wideside bed and 4wd components to the MPC '78 Dodge pickup kits. I want to build the Power Wagon from Simon and Simon.
Chuck Most Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Wasn't this kit released as the "Judge" Funny Car by Model King a few years ago, or is it from different tooling? I won't claim to be an expert on late '60's funny car kits, but I think that's the one. It's the only one I can think of that has a pure stock '69 Goat body. The rest of the kit is pretty much a generic MPC late '60's Logghe chassis.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 The Iwata Neo looks good, and very reasonably priced. It might just be what the doctor ordered! I hope it can handle urethanes and lacquer paints well . . .
scale trucker Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 the 50 olds will make a couple sweet cars a led sled and a 60's gasser..
Tonioseven Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 I look forward to seeing a few of the newly announced kits on my bench. The Audi R8 Spider will get top priority.
