Chuck Most Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) Biggest improvement you can make (appearance-wise) to this kit is to install the grille/bumper from a Monogram '59. The white strip visible between the bottom edge of the hood and the top of the grille will fill in the gap resulting from using the Monogram grille on the AMT body. The blacked-out area behind the headlight bezels shouldn't be kept chrome- that's a common area overlooked by most people who build '59 Caddy kits. Here's how it looks before the remaining chrome is masked off, and the area is blended into the fender. Here's how it looks blended into the body. Edited May 30, 2012 by Michigan Madman
Edsel-Dan Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Both AMT & Monogram would have been better off casting the Headlight bezels as separate parts, thus allowing the fender to extend to its correct location. The Gunze 1/32 scale 59 Eldo has the headlight bezels cast with the body, With the dividing line in the correct location leaving the body color band separating the grill from the headlights.
Chuck Most Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 That's one area I didn't fix on this one- for me, the area just behind the headlights on the fenders was the most distracting feature.
Rob Hall Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Speaking of hearses, IIRC at one time a resin caster (maybe Jimmy Flintstone?) did a hearse body for this kit.
Chuck Most Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I think the JF bodies are for the Polar Lights kits, but I have seen a few hearse bodies for this kit.
Edsel-Dan Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) It will likely fit both fairly equally, But I bet it Was for this one. I seem to remember it being done Before P-L did their version I believe it to be a Superior Crown Edited May 31, 2012 by Edsel-Dan
ryanm Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Ive got the amt release coming in the mail dont know anything about the kit but its gonna make a great hearse. Any pros and cons about the kit would be appreciated thanks ryan
martinfan5 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Well, its a very basic curbside kit, all the chassis is one piece, the interior is pretty basic , its not a bad kit, but its not a great kit either
zenrat Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 The "glass" is very thick and has a horizontal strip moulded into the side & rear windows (representing the strip of tint they fitted to ambulances). A lot of shaving & filling is required to remove the mountings for the ghostbusting gear. It won't fit straight onto a Revellogram '59 Caddy chassis either. Good luck.
Casey Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Bump for ryanm...we have a forum function issue.
crowe-t Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 What are the main differences between the AMT and Polar Lights Ecto-1 kits?

crowe-t Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Thanks Jon! However I'm interested in one to build as something other than the Ecto 1. I should have asked if the main parts, body, chassis, interior, windows... were the same or different.I like the stock rear bumper in the Polar Lights kit and am trying to figure out if that's a good enough reason to get the Polar Lights kit instead of the AMT.
plastiktruck Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Hallo Zusammen, es gibt für das Kit auch Photoätzteile die ich mir auch schon besorgt habe. Hier zu bekommenhttp://www.modellbau-koenig.de/Raumfahrt_Sci-Fi_Gundam_und_TV/Aetz-_und_Detailsets/Ecto-1A_Photoetch_Set_125__i495_42937_0.htm

PL has the correct stock rear bumper, AMT has a non stock step bumper. AMT may include a stock rear bumper as well, not sure about that. PL has molded in strobes in the grill, AMT has a stock grill, Monogram has the best grill. AMT has separate clear red tail lights, PL has white plastic molded in tail lights. AMT and PL are curb sides with a promo style bottom plate, Monogram is full detail. I only have the PL version, the above is based on comments from the thread.

Edsel-Dan Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Actually, The tail lights are Chrome in the P-L kit as they are part of the rear bumper!!I also have both kits!!I Cut the 4 Bullitts off the rear bumper on my P-L kit!!!I was Not able to do that for the larger lenses surrounding the backup lights!! The AMT kit has ONLY the Step Bumper as that was how the car was Modified for the second Movie!Ecto-1 in the first movie had a Standard rear Bumperthe 1A of the second movie had the Step BumperHere is my Photobucket album for Ecto-1 & 1Ahttp://s145.photobucket.com/user/EdselDan/library/Models/Ghostbusters?sort=3&page=1 Both are the AMT kit!!the 1A is completed, the 1 is stalled.I still need to the correct Stock Cadillac Hubcaps for her, and to tint the windows.I do not think the scribed line in the window piece is for Standard Ambualnce tintingBoth Movies show a Clear Band in the side & tailgate (rear door) windowswith Upper & lower section tinted gray/dark This is Easily seen in the interior shots while enroute to a callHarold Ramis & Bill Murry looking at where they are going in the WILD ride/Turn!!! Here Polar-Lights has the windshield & front doors in clear, while the rest are in VERY Dark gray/black (BARELY transluscentlet alone transparent!!!So AMT kit is the Best to start with for that alone!!! Both kits have errors. AMT gave us Chrome Reverse rimes with Baby Moons.ONLY the Baby Moons were Chrome in the Movie the rims were White! Both give us Incorrect Spotlight mounts and omit the side Mirror from the SpotlightP-L kit does Not have the Standard Caddy side Mirror, or AM radio antenna!!YES there were TWO side Mirrors on Ecto-1!!\And the Short Antenna on the right fender!!Also Ecto-1 had Two Larger Whip antennas. the one on the right front CLOSE to the AM radio antennaand a Second on the left rearBoth clip to the roof rack/carrier at or near the top front cross bar The ladder in the P-L kit is too heavy, and Bent while the car has a Straight ladder!! I watched those movie scenes Over and Over on BOTH movies(OLD VHS tapes, I recorded off HBO/Max/Showtime/???) AMT's Message board decals are VERY incorrectThe original Box art showed the actual car.I counted the Dots, and made my own from Blank Revell Goodyear Blimp sighs!!Scaled down on a Photocopier way back when!!I had to splice them to get the correct length!!(did that before reducing them!) That Photo-etch set would have been Nice back them!!!Looking at the decals I need to check the second movie againI remember seeing "WE PROMISE" not We're Readybefore "TO BELIEVE YOU"We Promise is on the front fender!!!!! I know I am likely repeating info I gave back then, but.....Better to repeat, than forget!!!!
